The great CFC chain letter part 2: around the world in 800 days!

:( Can't blame you for not renewing the domain warpus, considering it's already been two years since I sent Bumbles on to South Dakota, he wasn't moving too fast before that, and there's only been one hop in that two-year timespan. I must admit, I was rather concerned when it looked like Bumbles absconded from the remaining tour after being sent to South Dakota - meaning I was the last person who had seen him for several months - and am glad he did eventually resurface, with evidence to boot. Still, would've been nice for this to reach completion, even if in more than 800 days.

Did anyone scan the diary, perchance? If I did, I don't remember where I put the files. I think the original plan was to upload it once the journey was complete.

I'd still like to see the Bumblage continue the journey. Wouldn't be opposed to a third attempt, but if one we're attempted I'd either break it down into regional journeys first (ex. North America, Europe, and East Asia, with three different items), or keep it focused on those who participated successfully in the first two - likely some of both - to maximize the chances of success. The goal of the regional approach is it would allow us to figure out who sent it on most quickly, and have those people be the ones who participated in the global journey (though there'd still be the chance that some people would not have a chance to receive the item if a journey broke down entirely).

I would certainly like to hear the sad tale of why he is stuck where he is.

I had no choice, I mean, I looked at how much time has passed, how far the yeti has made it, and figured if I was going to keep the domain I'd have to keep it for at least 10-15 more years. That's like 20-30 beers. So I did the math and it seems that it's more optimal to just get a free domain with a slightly different name (which I was working on, and got sidetracked) and then maybe once the Yeti makes it back we'll have a big party somewhere and will get another yeti .com domain then, or some sort of a futuristic hyperdomain for web 6.0 or whatever

And there's also the seemingly far more likely chance that the Yeti is dead and will never make it, unfortunately, so I figured it's good enough that the site will live on forever anyway, just not under that name. I get unlimited hosting and use it for various personal projects, so a yeti site always being up doesn't cost me anything extra, so that's not a problem.

What if we don't end up tracking him down, don't end up launching a third attempt, or whatever, what if then we just say ISIS got him and he got radicalized, and now who knows where he is? Or he's trying to infiltrate them from within? Then at least the story has a more.. uhh.. satisfactory ending.

Should we try again with a new list of participants? Rereading this was great fun.

I'd do it.

The old "rules" on in the OP and could be adjusted.

Owen, do you still have all the trinkets that were traveling with Bumble?

I'll do it. I'll have to avoid replicating the exact same places madviking showed 4 years ago. The yeti hasn't been to dc, has he?

If we get a list of participants, we can figure the best routing. If you want to join, post with your destination city name.

I see no reason not to if enough people want to do it so our yeti can travel around the world. We could start a new thread and have the mods move the pictures and stories from this thread to that one.

I think we should choose something new & smaller that will be cheaper to send. Maybe a little green army man?

I would also suggest starting a new thread for it.

I was juuuuuust thinking about this earlier today. I'll spoil my submission last time, I took a picture of some of my friends and the mainroom crowd at Ruby Skye, a now defunct nightclub. I was really proud at that time, 6 years ago. It was a wild night. My only request is that if we try this again, everyone commits to making sure their handwriting on the package will be sufficient for international travel.

People should also make arrangements for someone else to take deliver if they are away or ask for the package to be rerouted.
This could have saved the camera.

I'd still be up for this. I'm near Bristol now. But I worry about sending yet another poor yeti out there into the cold, unwelcoming world.
We should do a CFC Southwest meetup. :)

Well what ever is sent has to be small but big enough to show up in the pics, light, low value and something that is unlikely to upset anybody in customs

Oh damn, a blast from the past. I'm up fer it.

Post here if you want to join and we can maintain a list and the best itinerary.

If you have pictures and stories from the other thread, ask a moderator to move them here or I guess you could quote them. I'm really busy for the next week, so someone might think about the rules and post ideas.

Bumble's journey will pick up with Owen in CA.

@Birdjaguar has started a new thread
