The Great DoC 1.9 UHV Challenge

That's what I call a screenshot  Does PRINT not work for you?

That's what I call a screenshot  Does PRINT not work for you?

PrtSc stopped working since some random day for me, all I got from PrtSc is the screen outside CIV4, which means, desktop. I don't know why and how to fix, maybe reinstall civ4 but I gave the DVD to my friend.

All your screenshots are saved as a JPEG in \Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\ScreenShots, unless something's wrong.

Maybe the Vikings need an extra dynamic name for controlling Britain? Nordic Empire perhaps?

Egypt 17737 pts, M/N, I beat it. Way to prevent Greek conqueror: conquer them.

Question: if I am already at war with Romans, would they still poop legions and catapult to attack me?

Capital on marble is crucial. that spot got all good overall outputs. Tech mining -masonry first, to get 2nd city on gold early.

Nobody have done this challenge on the following civilization yet :

Persia
Japan
Tibet
Indonesia
Spain
Holy Rome
Mali
Poland
Portugal
Thailand
Congo
Prussia

I'm busy. It's 1850 AD and there is only one colony in South Asia (Calcutta, British, tech par) so I'll probably win.

Russian 1868 AD, normal monarch, 600AD start, score : 7928 Ivan the Terrible ( >_< )

Communist brothers were: Aztec, Inca, Indonesia, Italy, Persia, all peace vassals. Research mass media then you can gift techs you didn't discover by yourself.

Is this 1.9? The trans-siberian railway doesn't tick in for me.

Latest SVN (417). Founded Gdansk as capital, 2nd settler go to iron, starting army captured Russian Novgorod, made peace, then hired a levy and captured Kiev in 1160.

I switched to city states - absolutism at first, for research and food. This helped Gdansk to get 2 great scientists early, I used them to bulb philosophy and education(partially). Tech path: drama - paper - education - gunpowder (bought guilds from Byz in 1280) - liberalism bulb military tradition -> Winged Hussar whamming -> astronomy (bought optics from French). After guilds, switched to monarchy - urbanization and massed workshop.

Gdansk + Kiev + Novgorod reached 12 in 1380, with culture slider at 20%. Russian attempted to take back Kiev and Novgorod twice, I was undefended first time so I reloaded and built a few archer(upgrade to crossbowmen) and knights. It is thrilling, good design. After I blocked Russian the second time, I attacked Turkey and captured Belgrad. Next turn, their huge army appeared in Istanbul (knights, janissaries, bombards) but they were willing peace, so I signed treaty. Meanwhile Spanish DoWed to me, so I took their Venezia and then captured independent Rome and Neapolis - finally got some luxury!

After I bought optics I built 3 caravel, and got both conqueror events, while English had astronomy long ago...Incan city had stone I wanted for cathedral, but I didn't have astronomy yet. So no bonus for cathedral building.

Finished liberalism in 1545, 2/3, many DoWed on me, but HRE and France remained peace from beginning to the end (My Gdansk had only 1 warrior defending for about 200 years, why didn't HRE attack me?) , and nobody was able to reach my reign. I went on whamming Turkey by my sweet winged hussar.

Germany founded Protestantism (this time I didn't find Koreans in time)in 1570, I embraced, Swedish DoWed on me but did nothing. I quickly modified building orders and got 4 cathedrals (1C, 1O, 2P)built in 1595. Also bought astronomy from new friend Dutch. Captured Moscow at the very last turn.

Good job Leoreth!

Thailand, Normal, 600 AD, ended 1902.
I must note that the game didn't want to check the victory  however, I can provide a screenshot and a save in which you can clearly see I and the native civs control all of South Asia.

Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0033.jpg

The first goal isn't too hard, really: if you get lucky most of the civs are still around, and most of the civs in my game were Buddhist. I had 6/8 OBs by turn 2 (Buddhist Mughals, Cholas, Tibet, Indonesia and Corea and Taoist China)

The second goal is a bit of a gamble: (un)timely plague can ruin or make your day. However, it seems the Plague doesn't spread to Ayutthaya anymore (or my city was just too healthy).

For the third goal, I had to conquer Portuguese trading posts (not overly hard, used cuirassiers with Russian Iron and Horses), Dutch trading posts guarded by muskets (the one on Malaysia is extremely annoying: it's surrounded by jungles and one cannot use siege - I waited until frigates and used Chang Suek spam), Indonesian Indies (because Indies aren't allowed for UHV) and finally English Calcutta - their trading company failed but they used congress to get it back ). I also settled some South Asian islands because I didn't know whether the code allowed tiles to be unowned or not - all in vain, though.

Hovering over my name in the right part of the screen reveals I would have gotten a score of 2942 if it would have checked.

Thanks to both of you!

@youtien: you're playing this definitely better than me ;) I really had some bad luck in my game, forgetting to micromanage my cities and getting two great prophets instead of scientists. I also don't play city states for flavor reasons. But I guess being first to Astronomy as well would still be impossible?

@strijder20: you're probably right that the open borders goal is too easy now with Cholas and Tibet in the game as well, so the threshold should rise to 10 I guess.

How exactly did the goal not check? Did the victory screen say you fulfill the criteria? Is the save from before the goal would check? If not, such a save would be helpful.

Not impossible, but depend on luck. If English or French go for astronomy first, you have no chance, and it seems a bit pointless, for Poland is not a colonial civ. How about be the first to adopt secularism in Europe?

I don't think it's really hard to be the first to adopt Secularism when you also have to be the first to Liberalism, eh? ;)

My first idea for the goal was to be the first to adopt Republic, but that is either problematic if someone uses the Parthenon before you spawn or easy because nobody bothers to switch.

3000 BC start. Khmer caravel discovered me in 1220(see OMG thread), this means no conqueror, and I bought crucial techs like sailing, calender by gold from them, sweet.

Vassalized Aztecs by starting Quechuas. The rest is just build up and research, trade, expand. My second GP is a merchant, who made UHV#2 very easy. Got steel before 1799. Nobody except Portugals colonized south America. I settled a lot places before victory in order to get higher score.

Or perhaps North Sea Empire; that's the typical name for Canute's empire that controlled Denmark, Norway, and England, although not much of Sweden besides Skane.
