What do you think about the Korean Unification, should it be reunited?
I hope so...

Would anone really answer 'no' ?

Given North Korea's domination by a ruthless dictatorship, I'd say no. Kind of like forcing the UK to merge with NAZI Germany during WW2.

Yes, but only if the Korean people want it to happen. And by 'the Korean people' I mean South Koreans. :scared:

My vote right now is hellz no, but if things change for the better in North Korea after Kim than I'll change ny vote.

Yes, especially if the Koreans do not want it to happen. A fractured but united Korea is less of a long-term threat to to regional stability and European industrial-economic supremacy than two distinct Koreas where one or the other are left unhindered in their quest for progress.

If the people want reunification, they should be able to do it. I definitely do not (and I suspect many others, Korean or otherwise) support reunification at gunpoint.

3 posts :ack:

I think if its done peacefully and is wanted and has safeguards to ensure it's not taken over by dictator it could be a good idea.

If the Korean people want to, why not?

Because Russia and Japan wouldn't like that, perhaps?
That isn't important! It doesn't matter if they do not like that,if that's what Korea wants, then it will happen.

Erm, sorry, when were the UK and Germany a single state that was invaded by world superpowers that established their own puppet governments?

You think the North Koreans do not covet what the South Koreans have?

Not to be nitpicky, but wouldn't reunification be peaceful? Or do you mean an outside force would bring it about at gun point and kill millions of civilians in doing so?

Whatever happened to cultural prosperity eventually spilling over and making converts of the less civilized country? I give it 500 years and if no war has broken out, it will once more be a unified country, but that is my opinion.

Considering the two nations probably have such vastly different lifestyles I think even a peaceful unification would probably bring about massive social change. Eventually it might be for the better but I think it would be tough getting there. From what I've heard about South Korea, it seems to be a 1st world country and North Korea is very poor and backwards and repressive. For one thing, I've heard that Kim Il Sung is credited with inventing electricity and other things in NK.

It would probably be like the Germany unification, but hugely more troublesome.

Nazis and UK are a bad comparison. The thread doesn't assume anything about Kim Jong being around after the unification.

I don't trust the Northerners to make the decision with their education the way it currently is. You know, propagandized since birth about anything and everything and worshiping the Dear Leader.

Yes, as long as all terms are decided by the South Korean governemnt.

If East and West Germany can reunite. So could North and South Korea.
