I have a question. What are some good books on Chinese/Korean/Japanese history? Really, East Asian in general.
East Asian history is big. Like, really big. You'll have to be specific.

Um, Imperial Chinese. I hope that's specific enough.

The book I used for my History class seems like a good detailed starter of the history of Qing China.

It's massively detailed, lots of accounts from European and Chinese sources and covers Qing China society, technology, politics, military and economics, proceeding with it's stagnation and decline, European exploitation, break up and division, Republic and Communist movements, ending off with Maoist China.
When a girl repeatedly (say 3 times now) asks you, in casual conversation, if you have any plans over the weekend... is this a good sign?

If you don't want to wade through the sheer immensity of Hsu, you could always go with the late Jonathan Spence's Search for Modern China, which is given as one of the suggestions on that Amazon page; it's shorter, better-edited, cheaper, and is not noticeably incorrect.Wow, thanks a lot! It looks amazing. I was trying to read another book, and parts of it were good, but a lot of it was just confusing and not the best. With such great reviews, I'm sure this book is excellent.
