When will the results of the US election start to arrive? (please include timezones if relevant)

Hard to say. The press will be calling it by 9 or 10pm Eastern time tomorrow night. But if it's not a blowout, and it isn't likely to be, then it's entirely possible that we won't know tomorrow at all for certain. And if it's outstandingly close we might not know for weeks yet.

Who you think will win the election?

As Cutlass said, it's impossible to know.

Not only will it be a tight race (which means almost all of the votes will have to be counted - and when you factor in the time zones, could take a full day - or even weeks if results are challenged or if there are enough absentee or provisional ballots to tip the scale), you also have to consider the electoral college system.

It is possible to win the Presidential election in the US and not win the popular vote by picking up enough states with enough Electoral Votes (you need 270 to win out of 538) to get over the top.

What this means is that there are scenarios where a candidate can pick up enough EV's that they will have won the election before all the results are in. Particularly, the East Coast is packed with EV's, and it is possible for a candidate to pick up enough there that with only a couple of Midwestern states they will win the election. (It is reasonable to assume Obama will sweep the EV heavy West Coast states and Romeny will pick up Texas which also has a lot of EV's - the states in between only really matter honestly if this election breaks the major voting patterns set down since the 80's).

Though any responsible news network will not call the election when Ohio's results come in, by that point it may be clear who will win the election barring major upsets.

Did the biggest misconceptions about you thread get closed and deleted?

A yes or no answe will suffice. I'm not trying to start a PDMA discussion, I just did a search and couldn't find it.

If you do want to answer this with PDMA then please PM me.

What is a good way to step around the multi-year experience requirements that so many jobs have?

I've found myself being at the edge of having wonderful jobs that I know I am capable of doing, and am perfectly willing to put myself forward with two weeks of free work to demonstrate my skill because of my lack of experience, but the companies just aren't interested.

Does anyone else have experience (lol) with not having the amount of experience required for a job? How did you get around it? Or should I just accept the fact that regardless of being qualified for the position, I won't get it because I don't have a gold star on my resume saying "Syn has worked in this field for x amount of years!" ?

Any insight would be great. Thanks.

Gah, I wish Downtown was still posting - this is right up his alley. Only thing you can really do is apply anyways, list the qualifications you do have and, if possible, try and draw any credible linkage possible to experience you do have even if it isn't quite what they are looking for. Job hunting is a lot like dating. You spend a lot of effort and time on outside chances that you know are incredibly unlikely to pan out.

You are SoL, syn.

Companies can afford to be picky and they are doing so to the max. I would keep checking with them because if they can't find their dream candidate, they will have to open up the application process to 'less desirable' candidates.

Sorry that this isn't what you want to hear. Just take heart in the fact that because unemployment is so high, companies feel they can demand extreme amounts of skills or experience from applicants and many are finding they have to lower the bar when no one can meet their demands.

Don't give up the search.

That's pretty much what I figured.

Question is still open to those that have different experiences with that problem.

Thanks, Farm Boy and Hobbs.

Apply for it anyways - try to scrape any relevant experience together to make up the time.

Otherwise offer to work for nothing for some weeks to prove yourself.

once you got black you can never go back

"Cristaallll. You know, like the champagne?...it's what hot black guys drink."

Was downtown a actually interviewer? He said something once that made no sense and he should have know it.

Are the British and Canadians really trying to 'ditch' socialized medicine?
Are they really 'unhappy' with it?

I hear that from the right in the US so much without evidence and I can't believe it's true.

If British politicians tried to abolish the National Health Service, they would be immediately removed from office and possibly lynched.
