What do you expect? 14 year old girls get obsessed with something, watch it over and over 24hrs a day... the phenomenon is nothing new, but now its just easier with youtube and whatnots.
But Fifty! This
is something new. Obviously, when the generation preceding us thought that our generation and the world we lived in was bad, we laughed at them, and everything turned out all right, so I don't want to chicken little (except that I actually do). Now that I've mimed wisdom and self-awareness, let me explain why
this time, the world really is going downhill. I have this out of context statistic and a personal anecdote to prove it.
You see, young people are doing stupid stuff. We did stupid stuff when we were kids, but it was
different stupid stuff. And this stupid stuff is like a bajillion times worse. And what's more, people aren't as good as they used to be. I mean, seriously. Let's give lip service to the concept of nostalgia, then think back and totally ignore the rose tinted glasses. Now, doesn't it seem like the world today doesn't measure up? Also, before anyone accuses me of being for [bad thing from the past], I'd just like to say that I don't endorse that, and I'm glad we put that behind us, it's just that I can't really comprehend that in order for a culture to geninely put [bad thing] away for good, it needs to make cultural changes I find disorienting.
And another thing. Have you noticed that popular culture marketed towards a youth demographic isn't as good as when I was in that demographic? I mean, I remember my elders being fine with my youth culture, at least after carefully repressing memories to the contrary.
To sum it all up, there was nothing new under the sun, until I came along. (See? See? Literary reference!)
