The NOTW Information Thread

I have one planned, but RL is going to make it quite difficult to find a time to run it. I'll consult my calendar, though. Having just finishing GMing a small game elsewhere, I am in the mood to do another...

Could someone explain the difference between Mafia and NOTW?

The primary differences are two-fold and somewhat interlocked. First of all, in a typical NOTW, everyone has a public role. Traditionally NOTWs are set in the FFH2 Universe, all though that is not required. Secondly, because everyone has a public role, role-playing is expected to a degree in NOTWs that it is not in Mafia games.

The history:

A few years ago Kael started a no-frills mafia game set in the FFH universe. Shortly after that game finished I ran a NotW II game which was a mafia game except I* put in items, personal goals, abilities. From there you have the NotW series which were the mafia games with items, personal VC's, items, more complex rule structures. I think the mafia games copied this style which is why there is so much overlap with the mafia and notw games now.

*Unless anyone knows differently, I believe that I was the creator of the modern mafia/notw style game

I'm afraid that my MNotW is going to have to wait a bit longer. RL is very busy for me at the moment, and I'd rather delay the start than have a load of 2-3 day extensions in the game.

Mafia copied this structure because ATPG came along and introduced it to us and we liked it so much we kept it. Well, most of us liked it, at least.

So, who's running the next one? Winston seems to have RL, so it looks like we're up to Civgeneral and TFA on the list. Once that game gets going, I have some ideas for a Mini.

I'll do one! Not! I already have a lot of stuff in the mafia que. Don't put me down for a game.

I have another game nearing readiness Working title is: Life's a Bore. If no one else steps forward by the weekend saying they're basically ready, I'll put up a sign-up thread for this one.

A game entitled "Chronomancy" sounds awesome :)

Chronomancy is so awesome that it used it's time-altering powers to make a copy of itself. Then, of course, the paradox corrector had to destroy the copy by making it be edited out of existence.
