The "OMG! Look what happened in DoC!" Thread

Not anymore.

When I spawned I flipped a bunch of cities, mostly of the Netherlands. Fortunately Only poland declared war on me, and I conquered it easily. The netherlands stability was hit hardly because of the cities that flipped, and France soon declared indipendence, togheter with spain. But Netherlands still had an army in italy and they conquered it completely. So now italy is something like a near netherlands' colony. And now, the two major colonial powers, england and vikings, collapsed, and things are getting even weirder.

Also Portugal and ethiopia collapsed. So Kongo and Mali are taking over those territories that were of the two collapsed civilizations.

It's a mess. :crazyeye:

Hello everyone, just migrated here from the vanilla RFC. Speaking of migration, I tried my 'Egyptian Exodus' approach here too and the results were... interesting.

Since you can't sail around Africa's west I never had any contact with any of the post-Roman European civs. I imagine they must have been very confused when their holy city was suddenly moved 5000 miles to the southern end of Africa to a country they didn't even know existed.

It also seems the Apostolic Palace forces contact with all Catholic factions which I didn't see mentioned in the description. Was quite convenient for me.

I have a mind of switching to a newly spawning civ sometime later just to see what the AI will do when given reign of south-African Egypt...

Dunno, I was on Shaky at most times(~ -24 in Expansion) but the other categories made up for it enough to keep me going, sometimes even propelling me into stable. Agrarianism really helps down there too(I actually discovered Taoism first, mostly by accident). I often get an 'A minor crisis is imminent' notification but nothing really bad ever happens.

It seems though a bad event can quickly push me over the edge. I was expecting mostly Impis so when various barb riders started coming down the coast of East Africa I was unprepared the first time. Axeman against str 8 +50 vs melee cavalry is a rather disadvantageous proposition. Losing a pop 1 city was enough to make me instantly collapse. Had to reload and build a couple spearmen for defense in the east.

Collapse it before ten turns have passed, obviously.

I'm playing as the Vikings and managed to build the Apostolic Palace. So Swedish pope. Which I realize isn't all that weird when the human player does it, but the fact that I lost my second term of the papacy to the AI Incans... I felt like that merited posting.

It seems your raids annoys them a little.

One of my changes to the voting mechanism was that the possible candidates are slightly randomized. It doesn't always need to be the member with the most votes.

What is Bath doing in Wales?

Are you implying that the Welsh don't bathe? How rude

Nah, My Egyptian Exodites are stable enough that an AI should be able to manage it. It helps that there is little chance of war or even attack, the Impis come on their lonesome instead of in groups of three like in vanilla RFC. Various horsemen and camel archers in the east can be a problem, but with walls and pikemen in the endangered cities that stops being an issue.

I'll give it a try, take a spawning civ somewhere in the middle ages and see what happens. Promises to be entertaining.
(by the way, it's possible to get the UHV when moving your settler to South Africa. Yes, really).

On a side note, I quite like the idea of Christianity being founded in a distant land that many Europeans believed to be the thing of legends, hence beginning the Age of Discovery...

Well, Christianity's holy mountain is in the middle of Asia it seems.

So, holy mountain in Asia, Catholic holy city in South Africa, Orthodoxy holy city in Europe... If I get Protestantism founded in Oceania(have open borders so I could start converting) and then a civ from the Americas gets elected pope and wins the religious victory...
