If you're talking about the Japan/Super France game, yeah. Ethiopia reliably collapses in the 11th-15th centuries.

Or if it does it just respawns within a few turns before any cities can be colonized.

never had that. I always liked trading with Ethiopia in my 3000BC-games, but they always overextend and then collapse, even back in the ~700s SVN versions which are 1.12 now if I am not mistaken.

Surprisingly the Byzantines being alive is not the strangest thing here. I've never seen Thessaloniki before which is already odd, but most strange of all is the Orthodox holy city in Crete of all places.

Wow! Greece is alive and the Cretan state indepedent going to join sometime in the future. First time I see something like that.

Well actually I kinda burned down Thessolanki and replaced it with Constantinople. I also annexed the rest of Greece.
It's been a strange game, most of Europe is unstable or collapsing and already the British, Swedish and Spanish have collapsed.
