The "OMG! Look what happened in DoC!" Thread

Yeah, I think the only manmade structure that's visible from space is the Netherlands
And thus the Polders - or Flevoland if you want a name - became a Protestant wonder. :p

And yes, I was about to mention that the Great Wall from space thing is a myth.

That's a myth. The Great Wall is not visible without a telescope.
BTW, if you zoom in into cities, you can see all the other wonders as well.

Yeah, I knew all that. I just wanted to stir the pot a bit :p

Though, now I think it's interesting how some other players might have the same misconception (Great Wall being the only wonder you can see on the map) just because it's so much more visible than the ones that just go in your cities.

Hmmm, that doesn't seem right. Just like in real life how the Great Wall of China is the only manmade structure visible from space, it's also the only wonder that shows up on the map. :hammer2:

The Wall is in this picture.

Red are parts that be picked out. Yellow is potentially another visible section. Potentially, because from the ISS, it is not easy picking things out.

As it turns out, the Wonder of the World that can mos easily be seen by astronauts on the ISS are the Great Pyramids.
pyramids-from-space.jpg

Both are taken from the ISS. It's prretty easy to ick out the pyramids here.

Of course, nothing beats 2 other things on easy to see from space objects: Very straight roads and long bridges. Especially if the roads are in rough terrain. This is because very straight lines are not naturally occurring most the time. Especially over water. So these are very easy to pick out because they absolute contrast with their environment by not fitting in.

End result is the astronauts on the ISS can easily use their eyes to see such roads and bridges.

It is also why the Pyramids are easy to see from the ISS, but the wall is impossible.

The wall has a lot of curves to go with the terrain and so cant be easily picked out, or simply can be confused for something else. The Pyramids have a base with 4 straight lines, and the shadow on one edge for contrast which practically scream LOOK HERE, The Great Pyramids.

Technically technically though, the ISS is not in space.

I do like to know when you became the International Astronomical Union and could dictate where the boundary of space is.

Is it above 100 KM? Yes.

It's in space as has been defined by scientific consensus.

That awkward moment when you can't make out the pyramids in the last picture...

They're right in the middle of the picture, just to the right of the midway point of the border between the dark and light halves.

There isn't specific boundary, NASA and FAI have different opinion. ISS is in the thermosphere, but according to most definitions it is in space.

Fun fact: ISS is visible from earth's surface. With binoculars and good weather, you can see the shape.

But did you notice that Babylonia is much weaker now that they cannot culture flip Shush anymore?

I haven't played DOC in a while, so no, but that is a welcome development. As long as they can avoid settling on the copper too then everything should fall into place.

Also, Khalpe is new (probably where the settler went this time).
