Many people don't know that the Salvation Army is more than a charity organization... it's also a church. It's much like the Nazerene Church (the SA is Protestant) and based on helping people in need (obviously). There are 11 Doctrines that we abide by. The SA is also very involved in the youth of the church (which I love).

Did anyone know that the Salvation Army is also a church?

Also, do you have a Salvation Army corps in your area?

There's one down the end of my road, but I've never really thought about it.

Yes i knew - i first read about it in History of Religion manual for High School. I have to say i was surprised. No, they are none around here.

And i also wanted to add the "Salvation Army" Wonder in my civ3 Religion Mod. If you could say what effect could this have in the game, i would gladly add this. :)

Here is the wonder splash:

EDIT: GRRR - stupid attachment
Here's the preview:

The Salvation Amry is also one of the few (five or so) charities I will give to. United Way? Forget it. Salvation Army, in a heartbeat.

I was aware that it was a religious organization, I didn't realize they gave actual mass (or whatever its called in a protestant faith)

Yes, well aware through neighbours and other contacts with them. There are none in my current location, but one always puts some money aside for them.

They are a denomination of Christianity. But they are lumped into the protestant group.

In one of the forums I frequent, which is a christian forum, they have a forum for baptists/anabaptists, Catholics, Orthodox, and even the salvation army.

Yep, I knew! :)

I haven't really checked them out here in 'Lanna, but there's one downtown in the ol' hometown.

Really? I'd love to know what forum that is... do you have a link to it?

Absolutely. They are (like VRWC) one of the few charitable organizations I trust with my money.

I knew they were an evangelical Christian religious organization. I didn't know that they were their own church, but I'm not surprised.

Of course, the only Salvation Army I've ever seen is a run-down concrete-block building in my town where my family donates pretty much everything (furniture, clothes, etc.) that we no longer use.

i kinda knew they were a church, although ive never seen one. However, they have lots of stores around my old hometown...it was a great place to pick up suits on the cheap for gigs.

I donate clothes on a fairly regular basis to the salvation army. Good guys, they are.

I knew they had their roots in religion, but did not know the extent. Still, a pretty good organization right there. I believe there's one in Downtown Brooklyn by the Atlantic Avenue terminal. I'm sure there are more in the city as well. And, of course, those ringing bells for the holidays are around at some of the busier areas.

There are lots around here, but they don't seem all that religious.

I mean, kids with lip rings selling used nes games to me?

wheres the jesus?

Is there something wrong with christians wearing lip rings?

You should meet me :wavey:.
Everyone is shocked when they here i am a religious person and that i respect the church and stuff(though i do not believe in what the church believes). They never expect this form a guy obsessed with nazis, satanism, fundamentalism, violence, death ... etc. :)
