The Seven Provinces

Your religious assumption on the means by which man can know of divine things of course originating, by your own admission, from mortal speculation rather than divine revelation. Man might perceive the existence of divine things in the sublime work of nature, but it is the height of arrogance to say that from their works the creators can be comprehended. The wise act in humble submission to the great mystery of the divine, they do not treat the sacred as a philosophical plaything.

OOC: Oh, for god's sake stop being so long-winded. There's no reason to spend several lines on what can be said in a few sentences.

Pottery will allow us to properly worship our gods so that they may grant us boons. Mining would give us nothing, as the jungle is much too dense for the projected weapons to cut through. Bronze Working is a high priority, but not the highest.

OOC: I'm being fairly concise and to the point thankyou very much, unlike a certain someone rambling on about rocks and trees ;)

-

IC: Your consideration is reasonable, although I would urge you to avoid undue delay of the necessary measures as is a perennial temptation no matter who is in power. It also is to your merit that you elaborated on the reasons behind your decision.

Actions:
1:Get a job.
2:Get married.

((Early ruins are everything, and having fast movement through jungle would be instrumental to getting them))

((The monarchy in the rules is a feudal monarchy, would it be possible to later to change the rules to represent the lower ranking magistrates appointed by absolute monarchs in Europe?))

OOC: Hey, at least what I'm saying is semi-understandable. I actually only have a faint idea about what half of your words mean!

Real life does that to people, don't worry we understand.

Session 3
The warriors, the strongest men of the Dutch people, traversed out of the grassland adjacent to a long winding river and into a forest. Soon, they came upon a clearing within the forest. It was an ancient hill fortress. Wooden palisades half rotten away gave little protection to the ruined fort. Curious and in awe, the warriors entered the ruins. Inside, they saw a wonder never seen by Dutch eyes. They were curved sticks with strings at the back. Long sticks with feathers in the back and a pointed stone was at the front. One man picked one of them up. A thought occurred to him, and he picked up one of the long sticks and put the back on the string. He drew it back, and let go. The stick whizzed away, far to the other end of the ruined fort.

The people of Magniv gathered around a small hut. There, a woman sat by a furnace. She told people of what she had done earlier--While she was baking bread, a piece of clay from the river her young boy played with had accidentally been thrown in the furnace. Too hot to take it out, they left it there. The woman returned later when the bread was done to find the clay hardened into a material. Now, she had thrown a large piece of clay into the scorching flames. She pulled it out with a stick and found that it was a hard ball of stone-like material. Pottery, she had called it, in honor of her son Potaar.

The great chieftain who was the predecessor of His Lord Willem van Magniv brought great prosperity to the Dutch tribes-people. Agriculture was one of his many endeavors that aided the people. In his honor, His Lord van Magniv decided to erect a monument to reach the heavens. It stretched to the sky, like the mountains to the east.

Willem van Magniv(Magnive):
-Your wife does not have an excellent personality and skills
-You have gained Culture experience and wealth from chronicling the history of the Dutch
Henri van Jeho(Jehoshua):
-Your wife does not have an excellent personality and skills
-After searching for a while, you get hired as a Bowyer with the salary of 7 wealth
Heinrich van Absolut(Et_Absoluti):
-Your wife does not have an excellent personality and skills
-After searching for a while, you get hired as a Potter with the salary of 5 wealth
Suleiman van Tirool(TirolluDorak):
-Your wife does not have an excellent personality and skills
-You have gained Culture experience and wealth from chronicling the history of the Dutch

My great chieftain, the warriors scouting the area have found the secrets of Archery within the ruins to the south. Pottery has been discovered by a woman in Magniv. The monument you decided to construct was finished. Finally, a tribe of barbaric people with evil intent are lurking near the old ruins. They could be the conquerers of the ancient people who resided there. What shall we produce from Magniv? What shall we have our shaman research? What shall the warrior do--Continue exploring or attempt to drive the barbarians out?

Mijn Chief, I recommend that we start training a scouting unit immediately. We can scout the lands to North and discover ways to fight these evil barbarians and perhaps new sources of wealth for our people. Though our warriors are brave and strong, they cannot attack a fortified enemy without greater numbers, this scouting unit can help tip the scales in combat and explore the area around us.

It appears the danger of savages I previously warned about is not so distant as some would have believed. For our scouting warriors have shown barbarians holding court over ruins to our south, while an encampment of the brutes has been spotted to our northwest. We would therefore advise training a second warrior or an archer squadron to bolster our defences as soon as is feasible. As to the southern savages, our warriors are disadvantageously located to aggressively attack the barbarian brutes, it would therefore be well advised to hold position and lure the enemy to attack across the river into our warriors current defensible position with such a scenario likely resulting in our victory. If the savages are not so foolish as to leave their stronghold though, it would be in my opinion prudent to defer their elimination until after a second military unit is trained, proceeding with limited exploration in the meantime before attacking with both units. A second unit we note is also a necessary step prior to eventually establishing a second city, as it would be the height of foolishness to send unarmed settlers into the wilds unescorted.

As to new things to research, we would advise either the study of celestial movements (calendar) or my previous suggestion of mining into the working of metals (copper working) for the benefit of developing our lands and the continued improvement of our military forces.

Have our warriors root out the barbarian infestation, while Magniv produces a unit of scouts. Our researchers should focus on developing a way with which we can map the change of seasons, so that we may properly take advantages of fruits and the like, such as the orange fruits found all around our city.

((Sorry for the late reply, I'm somewhat busy at the moment.))

A rather sour-looking warlock, hooded and frowning, approaches Chief van Magniv. He speaks in a foreboding tone, saying this: "Beware, my Chief, for the double-l people the civilians call them will ruin us. They are clearly spoken of in the stories of the gods. 'Be wary, my people, for creatures will rain down from the north with monstrous intent. When the stars align and the people have settled, they will come, come for blood, and blood they shall have if you do not beware.' The god Daarxyn spoke upon the blessing of our people. Greet them with swords, bows and spears, not lambchops and broccoli. I have also been told by the heavens that a man, I do not know his intentions, will arrive on the morrow or next.

Will you listen to the warlock, who is commonly disliked and often wrong about his predictions?

OOC: I will try to get the next Session out by Wednesday. I am quite busy Tuesday, but my Wednesday stuff was canceled. Perfect.

Prophecy is a shadowy thing my chief, rarely does it turn out to predict what one expects. I thus stand firm in the advice I gave previously when we first came across the strangers, treat them warily and as outsiders, and maintain always the interests and good of our own people first before those of strangers.

ACTIONS

presuming a job is constant (ergo one with a job gets paid a salary each turn, and its not a one time thing). My actions shall be as follows.

-

1: Teach at Battle School
2: Paint a Painting

~ note: According to the updated rules, there is a chance of children each turn, meaning procreation is not required as a specific action. I presume we will be informed if people have children.

I would like to join as Bert van Niedorp.

And as a positionless member of the Dutch population I would like to ask my chief to grant the double-l people an audience. It may just be the inpronouncability of their origin, but it seems to me these are not ordinary travelers for our newfound city. Unlike the barbarians who approach us from the south their intentions also do not seem hostile. If nothing else, they may tell us in advance of what to find in the regions northwards of our lands.

Also, as a new, jobless, wifeless man I shall be 1: looking for a job and 2: looking for a wife.

Mijn Chief I urge not to listen to such vagabonds as this warlock.They will say anything to get a glimpse of a coin. I agree with van Jeho in that we should keep our peoples interests first, but perhaps we should try to befriend these people. Would it not be more valuable to have a friend in the North instead of enemies to the north and south?

Actions:
Paint a painting
Teach at battle school

I believe in no such thing as a set future - that would imply that there was no such thing as the freedom to make your own choices, after all. If these people come after us with hostile intent, they will be repelled, but if they come in peace, they will be treated as honored visitors.

Actions:
Chronicle history of the Dutch
Teach at battle school

Eek. I just realized I haven't done this in a bit. Unfortunately, I am on a different computer than the one with the IAAR, and I'm really lazy.

Just a little notice, something big has happened. :mwaha:
