Yeah, but the fact he hold said extreme opinions make it pretty hard to notice when he's joking and when he's serious, because from an European PoV both are more or less comparable.
Your posts have brought a couple of things to the forefront. One is humor in a forum setting. Subtle humor can be tricky and since we only have words to go on, It can be difficult to tell when a person is "being funny about serious things" or being serious.

are your friends in this. The common defense of later saying "I was only joking" is pretty poor and typically used after the fact to cover up a truthful statement. You hold some views that are not mainstream here but are worthy of discussion. If you don't want to be misread by "miserable" people like me, you should be clearer about when your more controversial statements are you speaking or a humorous repartee.I do confront people, but I usually do so in response to something they have actually said. If I am wrong, I don't have a problem admitting it.
That kinda defeats the purpose of the joke though. Making it obvious that I'm joking is like having to explain the punchline of a joke to someone. It kills the humor.
I can feel your pain. On another board, I got a giant infraction for what I thought was obviously a joke. An incredible number of people apparently reported the infraction, because they couldn't understand why I got in trouble. But a handful of people reported my post as being completely crossing the line. On my end, I just didn't see it as possible that someone could misunderstand. It was a learning point for me, for sure

There have been serious questions over whether or not the NRA was illegally funneling foreign money to the Trump campaign (notably - a lot of Russian money). Thankfully, the Republican members of the FEC saw fit to shut down any investigation efforts to determine if this was a violation of campaign finance laws.

Hard to know if it's a crackpot conspiracy if it can't be investigated....
Edit: It's funny how the GOP allows itself to investigate things like Benghazi for years without finding what they're looking for but the minute anyone tries to do the same for them, it all gets shut down.

What a load of balls. This is also frequently said after people have failed to get an obvious joke. It's not at all reasonable to just default to believing people are lying when you hear this, that's utter bibble.
Also it's kind of depressing to see the advice that people should have to resort to emojis to convey humour.

I love that one. Brits do the same when we recall them that most tax havens worldwide are in British-controlled territories, which is a particularly flawed argument in that case as it's rather easy to prevent free movement of capitals towards a foreign territory. As a matter of fact, it is really likely that the EU only wait for the UK to leave in order to finally become stricter in this regard.
The "if we didn't do it somebody else would" argument can generally be translated as, "no business is too dirty as long as it makes money".

It's perfectly reasonable when the "people" in question have a history of, like Trump, making statements that are utterly demented with no trace of irony or humor.

What's really depressing is their effectiveness at shutting so much down. If I was a janitor and I just started locking doors to all the rooms I was supposed to be maintaining and just telling people nope can;t use those rooms anymore? I'd be fired within the week. Gutted useless depts of federal government off the top of my head.

Just the other day, the Federal Elections Commission lost its quorum. But we won't need the FEC, will we? We don't have any big elections coming up, do we? Meanwhile, there's video going around the web of a touch-screen voting machine in Mississippi literally changing a man's vote right in front of his eyes. I guess we're supposed to assume that's just one machine experiencing a bug and move on? Talk about whistling past the graveyard...
That's why I'm against voting machines. Voting is one area of life that should stay low-tech. Paper ballots work just fine.
