It's funny but not the hilarious type of funny.

Personally I don't think it's anywhere near as funny as spending several forum pages arguing that a particular gun is not a military-grade weapon and everyone identifying it as such is a fearmongering ignorant moron, then saying the reason you like this particular gun is because your time in the military familiarized you with guns that are exactly the same as it.

Yes, there was a real push some years ago in Alberta to crack down on distracted driving. The major emphasis at the time was cell phones, which is understandable. I remember a taxi driver who kept yakking away on his phone while driving and I finally told him to put it down because I didn't feel safe with him not keeping his full attention on the road. He was annoyed, but complied. He must have realized that I could have reported him to his supervisor if he hadn't.

Given the part of town we were in, I think it was reasonable for me to prefer a non-distracted driver. It's an area where there have been a lot of accidents.

I didn't realize they were cracking down on eating and drinking, as well.

Yeah, but demerits?

TIL that Agamemnon comes from Agan + mimno, ie "exceedingly" + "stay (remain stable)", pretty much therefore it would mean one who is stable in his views more than it does him good.

it means "hardcore conservative"

Yeah, but demerits?

Dont USAans get points on their licence? I thought it was reasonably the same across the developed world. In the UK twelve points and you are banned. Most minor infractions are three, four or perhaps six points for a couple of years. New drivers only have six points (basically equivalent to having a six point offence for two years) so they have to be extra good.

Points also mean two years of slightly more expensive premiums.

Sure. But I never heard of 'demerits' used outside of like an academic setting before.

TIL that China has way too many bicycles...

There are too many bicycles in Beijing
That's a fact,
It's a thing we can't deny.

That's what happens when bike sharing schemes get out of control....

"Too many" for what?
Would you prefer internal combustion engines...esp. considering Beijing has some of the worst pollution in the world?

Too many to a point where people consider them disposable and they become just another source of mass produced trash. Plastic was once a high-tech technological marvel. Now there is a giant clump of the stuff the size of Texas floating in the Pacific.
