Time to Ban Owning Pit Bulls?

Cape Buffalo in South Africa alone kill more human beings a year than all breeds of dogs (even mixing in wild canines like wolves, coyotes, hyenas, dingos, etc.) in the world combined in the same year, just to put "pit bull fatality" statistics into perspective.

1) There is no such thing as a "pit bull" breed, but rather a number of breeds which are collectively referred to as "pit bulls". As such we aren't talking about one breed that is disproportionately likely to attack with lethal force. The definition is ad-hoc, which a) feeds into likelihood to misidentify the "breed", and b) creates a situation whereby perceived "likelihood to attack/visciousness" becomes one of the defining criteria of the group. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy.

2) Wikipedia:

Pit bull-type dogs that I've run into in my personal experience have been total sweethearts. Personally, I've had far more terrifying run-ins with Huskies than I have with large-sized bulldogs. At the end of the day, I'd say owner, training, and quality of life are far greater determinants in likelihood of dog attack than individual breed.

yeah,
typical response of a human being
so sweet

just watch other dogs and pitbulls
the pitbull overly enthusiast, but....
very, very intolerant if the other dog behaves a little bit different than the pitbull expects

How 'bout bumpstocks?

Apart from the human deaths caused by pitbulls, afaik that breed is infamous for attacking other dogs (and sometimes killing them) as well.
Personally i don't think they should be kept as pets, or at least not if you are in an area where you are likely to be around many other people.
And definitely keep them away from children. Death isn't the only serious effect of bodily harm; kids can be mauled, lose an eye etc, from such a dog attack.

"Oh, wait...talking about fatalities made me look absolutely ridiculous, so now let's pretend the issue has been about injuries. There are a lot more of those."

Guess what, if you shift the conversation to injuries then that brings in all sorts of things that are far more ban worthy. Better ban bicycles. Skateboards. Ladders. All cause injuries on a scale that is several times larger than dogs.

those involve self inflicted wounds with inanimate objects

And?

They may be "self inflicted," but they are just as much unintended consequences of otherwise innocent behavior. Usually behavior that has no necessity behind it. Some of those bicycle injuries might be people who are using their bike for necessary transportation, but the vast majority aren't. My son used to commute on a skateboard, but as far as I know that could be the only 'practical skateboarding' ever. People do use ladders professionally (even me), but the majority of injuries are to people who are not professionals who no doubt could have and clearly should have called in a professional.

If the issue is elimination of unintended injuries there are clearly far more profitable places to start.

Oh, and I cut myself shaving...BAN RAZORS!!!!!

Now, that I can get behind.

As an aside, this guy went to jail and no one, including the cops, made any provision for the fact that he was abandoning at least one dog to fend for itself. Surprise, four days later the dog is eating the neighbors.

if razors are running around disemboweling the neighbors I'd be happy to entertain a ban

If you're not surprised, maybe owning pets that eat the neighbors if you dont feed them is a problem...

Judging by four posts already, you seem to be a very literal, narrow, limited thinker with no ability to recognize sarcasm, hyperbole, or other such tactics of debate and rhetoric, that are especially on internet forums. No offense, but I call them as I see them.

No, maybe people not having any concern for the welfare of animals that trust people to care for them is the problem...but no surprise that you are so deep into entrenchment in your position that you failed to see the point.

Don't forget Hammers! Many feet have suffered their assaults!

and which one was that, sarcasm, hyperbole, or some other debate tactic and why is it immune to rebuttal?

didn't take you long to start launching insults

Amazing how you bring that out in people. I would wonder if that is by intention, but of course would never accuse you of being a troll.

Did you recognize the sarcasm in my response? That only took you 2 posts.

Not amazing at all, someone makes an illogical analogy and they get mad when I explain why its illogical... Where did I insult you or Patine? Yeah, its my fault you compared a razor to a pit bull... I'd say my rebuttal was anything but a troll... I think you project your behavior onto others.

Since you guys enjoy reading articles on Foxnews about pit bulls killing people, here's another one for you.

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/12/1...nia-woman-22-during-mauling-sheriff-says.html

This dog was eating their owners rib cage. I wouldn't advise reading this story during lunch.

Or perhaps Foxnews is pushing a biased political agenda seeing as pit bulls are mostly owned by minority groups. But these cases involve white trash, more likely Trump voters, so the agenda pushing seems unlikely here.

Either way, they aren't protected by the 2nd amendment like guns. Get rid of them. I hate that I can't walk my dog because these things exist.
