The Indian National Congress emerged as the largest party in the final Lok Sabha election results today. With fifty two percent of the popular vote, the Congress took 403 of the 545 seats. The second largest portion of seats went to the Communist Party of India with 14 seats. The new, fascist India Forward Party fared worse than expected, picking up only 23 seats. IFP leader and former Congress President Subhash Chandra Bose vowed to do better at the next election and hinted that he would lead the Opposition. The results come as a mild surprise as the Congress had been expected to lose seats in the Lok Sabha after the uprising in the northwest and what was perceived as a lack of social and developmental progress throughout the country. Many poll analysts believe that the continued ban on the Muslim League, coupled with the fact that elections were held one year early, were factors in the Congress’s good results.
President Rajendra Prasad shall swear in the new Cabinet this afternoon. A Congress Party spokesman confirmed that the following is the final list of Cabinet ministers.
