Trump Serves McDonald's food at White House

Its less about the food and more about the man and the setting. It's the Republican POTUS posing as Ronald McDonald, a literal clown, under a painting of a pensive Abraham Lincoln, the undisputed greatest Republican POTUS.

The image is an iconic snapshot symbolizing a sliver of what was wrong with Trump. "Making fun of food" isn't nearly the point.
Specifically to a not!Unitedstatesian American such as myself the crass attempt to actively not be Obama in as many ways as possible was the strongest thing.

As for the rest, well, Gori's been more articulate than I have, especially about the strong personalist element (as I've said many times, you finally had a South American-style despot, if you want examples I can give them) and Farm Boy keeps digging himself deeper.

No, I just keep reading you all, and I had what you meant down the first time. You mean it, I get it.

I don't believe you are reading us, Farm Boy, because nobody used the phrase "low class"--of McDonalds food, or the people who eat it--except you.

We can play that game.

the hell?

Moderator Action: Play nice please.

It never is, when it's not your food. It's about the people who eat it. When you're you.
Puh-lease... I eat Mickey D's almost every other week... sometimes more... The steak breakfast sandwich with hash brown is my jam. When I'm on the road with the kids, its my go to, even more than Dunkin' Donuts. When I take my baseball teams for ice cream, McD's soft-serve cones are on the list of places I use.

The point you're trying to make about McDonalds being "their" food is just wrong. McD's is very much so my food.

Trump looks like a clown standing in back of all that McDonalds in the front of that painting of Lincoln and it has nothing to do with some baloney about elites looking down their nose at people who eat McDonalds.

This is America... WE ALL eat McDonalds... The photo of Trump with the McDonalds is ridiculous and makes a mockery of the office, in addition to everything that @Gori the Grey pointed out.

You're stretching on this and you know it.

I'm the classiest guy on this site, and I guarantee you I've had McDonalds more recently than any of you louts.

(Not to make this a classiness d**k-waving contest, or anything)

Trump’s opponents end up doing him a great service unintentionally by finding the picayune and cranking it up to 11.
11? I'm not yet up to 4!

Unbuttoned suit jacket.
Overlong tie.
This isn't visible in the picture, but the reason he had to order in is that the White House kitchen staff wasn't being paid, because he'd shut down the government in an attempt to get Democrats to pay for a wall at our southern border. (So if you know that, amadeus, the picture does also capture his poor policies)
All of that was a failed effort on his part. (so the picture captures him in the midst of one of his many failures)
Accordion hands.
That last is just Trumpian in general, but in context, it doesn't communicate "Here, enjoy this food I've provided you." (that would be palms up), but rather "Hey, look at ME, who set out all this food"
Forced, unnatural smile.
Color of the suit blends with color of the fireplace, further diminishing him. (That's partly on the photographer to have noticed and found a way to correct)

Going all in on resentful sooking because someone made fun of the ridiculous lukewarm Macca's feast at the White House is certainly a vibe.

About 5-10 years ago I realized it was my moral duty as an American to be able to enjoy McDonald’s again. Also a practical matter. If you can’t eat that stuff on a road trip and like it you’ve lost the plot.

It really varies by location but I had a Big Mac down in Texas that tasted similar to and just as good as an in n out double double. That sealed the deal! Chicken nuggets not as good as I remembered but still my go to.

I just followed the whole debate now. Trump’s McDonald’s moment is a mixed bag. It’s kind of great, USA and all. A partial “he gets us”. But I know exactly what Gori means, and it’s not a class thing, it’s a crass thing. McDonald’s is not just food, it’s corporate execs who don’t eat the food finding ways of cost cutting while branding it as the same as ever and raising the price.

Everyone knows when something gives you a fast food feel, and when you were expecting home cooking, you feel robbed, or duped, depending. In music there are artists adjacent to hit-vessels competing for the same spot of the same genre. The cheap stuff feels like a soulless cash grab.

Trump is cheap packaged as expensive. He delivers outsourced cheap. There is no care beyond the image that makes the sale.

He sold his steaks at the sharper image. That’s all you need to know. They were by accounts overpriced steaks. If you’ve been to the sharper image you know exactly why trump chose it. Mostly it was cheap stuff made to look expensive, sold as expensive. Meant to fool you.

You go to the White House expecting some 220 year old tradition of White House cooking staff giving you the cuisine of American home cooking…. and at least it was honestly McDonald’s. Sometimes it’s more complex.

i'd take a mcdonalds quarter pounder over trumpsteaks

hell i'd even take a big mac... and i don't like big macs

McD's fries are excellent!

When they're piping hot, yes

Well basically all of the food at McD's that isn't served frozen is best when it's hot and rapidly loses quality as it cools

I don't see a point in making fun of Trump's diet (or his physical characteristics) when there are plenty of real crimes and behaviours to focus on. The only thing you accomplish by mocking these other things is friendly fire.

A bit thin for me, KFC's fatter and slightly seasoned chips are the best of the fast food chips for mine. Weird that American KFC doesn't have em.

It doesn't take much effort to pack food.

Moral duty to eat crap? I don't get it. That's like saying you have a moral duty to wear a Joe Camel t-shirt except McDonalds kills more mofos than smokes these days and is still socially acceptable.

I mean I get it a lil maybe. It's like drinking in a bar, sure you're harming yourself but you're bringing yourself down to everyone else's level. There's a comradere in it but not all comradere is good.

McD's fries are excellent!
Just smelling them a block away makes me nauseous

This. Now if I thought he was personally reading what I wrote, I would absolutely mock his physical characteristics, because he's narcissistic enough to get upset at people mocking him, and I would enjoy hurting him however slight and transient it might be, because of the damage has and appears eager to continue to do to my country. But in general, bad karma to mock people for things that aren't material to their value to you.
