UFOs

Going down the gravity well, creating an entire sentient race to mine the stuff extremely slowly and then going up the gravity well is incredible waste of time and energy, considering there are asteroids floating by where they could land with minimal expenditure of energy, scoop up more gold than humankind ever produced within few hours and fly away.

So that doesn't hold water.

Maybe all the above is just the aliens' progression for doing something actually basic and needed, such as the analogue to inhaling.
Of course they wouldn't be 3d aliens in such a case.

I allowed myself to be moderately excited by a thread on what could (but probably isn't) evidence of actual UFOs. Then I saw by page 2 we'd already got into "ancient aliens" nonsense again.

:(

Thats what the Sumerians/Mesopotamians said. But how do you know they aren't mining asteroids? And they also said these beings combined their 'blood' with a creature roaming the southern domain of their god Enki to create a primitive worker, not just to mine mineral wealth but to relieve the gods of their burden of building infrastructure. This was only done after the lower gods rebelled over all the work they had to do.

You're excited at the prospect of UFOs but suggesting they've been here in the past is nonsense?

This "how do you know they're not" nonsense got old years ago. That's not how "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence" works.

He said he was excited about evidence. You still haven't provided any, just used this as another excuse to repeat the same old claptrap about Sitchin.

I was going through some of my old Cheezburger lolpics from years ago and found one that's relevant to this thread:

That's not what you were suggesting. UFOs are one thing, at any point in human history. "ancient aliens" is another.

We are talking about ETs, right?

Sarin said they'd just mine asteroids instead of mining the Earth so I asked how he knows they're not mining asteroids. Besides, the Earth has a wealth of different minerals asteroids may not have.

If I haven't provided any evidence why was he excited until page 2?

UFO doesn't necessarily mean extra-terrestrial :)

ofc... Thats why these videos and pilot testimonials are important, they help us determine what is or isn't extra terrestrial.

Thats quite a leap in drone tech, ours are slow and clumsy. But I did hear a pilot on Joe Rogan say these had to be drones/robots given the G Forces involved. How did Star Trek get around the problem of changing direction at hi speeds? I know what happened to Dark Helmet.

Btw, one of the guys in the military said the stuff we're seeing is the least compelling video from what they have. That makes sense, the Pentagon wont be showing us detailed video of advanced technology no matter who it belongs to. One of those things was apparently ~50 ft away from a plane. I was surprised though when the pilot said they've been seeing these things everyday for a couple years SE of Virginia.

Pentagon would never make any of its advance research public or military knowledge
The advanced robotics program which are shown are all 12 to 18 months old and we are told the really advanced military applications are never disclosed or revealed.
The US supposedly already has very advanced sentry turrets but these are not deployed and kept under wraps for future use. I'd imagine they would be of great value right now in places like Afghanistan. A tireless near perfect robot sentry would likely save lives and make it much harder on the Taliban.

I would not rule out aliens but given the lack of information I would not also presume it to be aliens

The asteroids are still there. Humanity would only be of use after they were exhausted.

You wrote about gold. That was challenged. You're moving the goalposts. The Earth doesn't contain anything super-specific, it's literally same stuff that's floating through the asteroid belt.

A robot sentry...like a cherubim? :) Do we have flying robots without wings and no apparent means of combustion that can go 13k mph?

I wrote Sitchin interpreted Mesopotamian texts to conclude their gods wanted gold for their atmosphere. That doesn't mean gold was the only resource they wanted, it was just the resource they needed for their atmosphere. If you're a space faring people looking for gold and you find it on an asteroid and this planet, wouldn't you mine both sources?

And if you found all sorts of other goodies would you just walk off? Anyway, the Mesopotamians believed we were created to work for the gods because they got tired of doing everything. And Jehovah brought the man called Adam eastward to tend his Garden.

You realize that any lifeform that breathes gold is not likely to be comfortable on Earth at the time when humans exist, right? And don't move the goalposts to say these aliens created humans. All mammals breathe in oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide.

Okay, I have to ask what Sitchin actually got out of all this BS? Was it just selling books to the gullible, or was there more? JFCOASB, this is beyond ridiculous.

Remember that we live in a world where a failed science fiction writer managed to found a "religion" and got plenty of wealthy fools to join it!
You think Trump was trolling running for president, he had nothing on that one!

Perhaps this one did that bad SF for the laughs? Or to troll someone who said no one would believe that stuff?

I actually found a Hubbard novel in my SF collection - something he published pre-Scientology. I threw it out, rather than offer it to anyone else. There are some writers who don't deserve to be remembered.

In my defense, I bought the thing second-hand, decades ago. I didn't know about his fleece-the-rich cult garbage at the time.

And I do know that starting a religion and making it successful means the money will be pouring in if you can fleece enough people on a consistent basis. What a pity I'm an atheist with the ethics not to do anything like this. I could have been rich.
