Unique names for UHV goals

^That's not what DC means, I don't think.

For example, for Greece, Ben's suggestion of Tôi Kratistôi really encapsulates and evokes the feel of Greece's expansion goal.
It's things like that which are unique to the civilizations that I would look for.
Like especially for China and Japan, Mandate of Heaven and Flying Geese Paradigm are concepts uniquely tied or coined in particular context to those civilizations.

Classic studies: It is exactly that. In ancient greek schools they learnt literature drama and philosophy (and music and mathematics). Nowadays when we say "classic studies" we mean ancient greek literature which includes ancient greek drama and ancient greek philosophy.
But isn't classic studies what we're doing today, studying subjects of the classical era? They ancient Greeks weren't studying it, they invented it.

Yeah, this is exactly what I was talking about.

Exactly. There should be a deeper meaning beyond 'translate this word' or 'summarise this objective'. In my opinion, of course.

Aztec Quality Control:

Prickly Pears Growing Among Rocks: Make Tenochitlan the largest city in the world by 1520 AD
Tlaxcaltiliztli (Nourishment): Build 6 pagan temple and sacrificial altars by 1650 AD
Tloque Nahuaque (Lord of Near & Far): Enslave 20 Old World units

The previous second goal actually has a glaring mistake and implication.
Quetzalcoatl actually opposed fatal and human sacrifices, so I suggest we do away with the name of the second goal (Appeasing Quetzalcoatl) as it is not appropriate to his nature.
The Aztecs performed human sacrifices to nourish and empower the rest of the teotl as to stave off the end of the Fifth Sun, because if it went black,
the Tzitzimitl; the star demons, would seize their chance and destroy the world.

You could use Huitzilopochtli though, or something with Tlacaellel. Tlacaellel made Huitzilopochtli the highest god, increased sacrifices, created the flower wars - and he did lots of other awful stuff; rewriting history so that the Aztecs were the first and the best of all, and burning everything to the contrary.

^That's a good one, Ben, and I like it more than the one I suggested.

About Huitzilopochtli however, I still think Nourishment is a better goal for the second one.
Because of the Fifth Sun mythology and that it was Huitzilopochtli as well as the other teotl who required the Nourishment in the first place to stave off the apocalypse.

Just curious, do you guys get Aztec mythology as part of the history lesson at school? Esp. TD, since California is pretty near to Mexico....?

lol no. There's a lot of history that is glossed over here.
Aztec history being one of them.

I'll be a little sheepish to admit that I became interested in Aztec mythology via a RPG.

The general progression that we learn in public high school (AP classes not included) goes like this:

1. River Valley civilizations
2. Greece
3. Rome
4. Medieval Europe (includes Renaissance)
5. Reformation
6. Colonization
7. America
8. World War Two
9. Cold War
10. Really just ends there and modern history is generally a footnote
Everything else just gets a cursory glance

Although I did look in my younger cousin's standardized history textbook and it included a brief look at either the Mali or Songhai which kind of impressed me.

No, history is just interesting. :P

That's almost a whole world that you've studied... missing Chinese and Korean Dynasties, Japan, India, Indonesia, Indochina, and the Caliphates.... and African tribes-kingdom.

Over here in Indonesia we generally only studied about Pre-history, Srivijaya, Javanese kingdoms (including Majapahit), Independence Movement and Soekarno... from Primary School to High School.. repeated all over again and again.

Lots of my friend don't even know where (and how big) is Roman Empire (except that it control the city of Rome itself and Jerusalem [known from Bible]) lol.

Really? What Tomorow's Dawn describes is about the same as what I've been taught in secondary education. We had ancient Egypt, World War I, and industrialisation too, although we didn't have much about America (only a bit about the CSA, and that only for the highest level (VWO; Atheneum / Gymnasium). It was pretty in-depth too.

Wow, you don't even learn about Native Americans?
Not really, no. Just like we don't learn much about Africa, Asia, Oceania... Quite logical really.

The Aztec suggestions look great, I'll incorporate them later.

I took the liberty to create this, so when Stridjer20 come back, he can just copy this to update the first post ;)
This way, everybody don't need to open the XML every time to check whether the name he want to suggest has been chosen. The name in the red bracket means that it has been suggested before (please do not suggest that again :))
