Unit requests thread

I was wondering if anyone might like to make a realistic-looking Viking.

As the Warlords Viking UU does not only wear a horned helmet (which I could live with), but also seems to have on a striped skirt(!) and two (??) huge axes, this unit clearly needs some work.

Here's a proper Viking:

(notice trousers, sword & shield, no horns)

krowtrobot made a Viking back in December '05 ( http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=146645 ), but as this guy is beardless, his look is in my view not quite Viking enough. :)

Anyway, that's my request. Hope someone might want to take up the challenge! Cheers :viking:

OK, here's an odd one for you.

Could anyone make a guy that has the Machine Gunners body, but carries and Infantryman's rifle?

I know that nothing usually comes out of requests made in this thread, but I figured that I might as well ;)

Request #1: 15th/16th Century Bombard
This is essentially an early form of the cannon. It was mainly used in seige operations since it was too unweildy and difficult to move to be effective in the field. It can be with or without wheels.

Request #2: 18th/early 19th Century Seige Gun
This is a large sized gun used to take out fortifications. Once again, it was generally not used in field operations.

Gunner - let me know if this render shot is good enough. The cannon is roughly skinned and the wood has a pine skin.

For an upcoming civ addition to CIV Gold, I could really use a swordsman on camel, with a fez.

...if anyone has time, of course.
Just wondering, but have you seen this thread? http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=164817
It seems to have the same type of theme your looking for, even though its a horse rather than a camel. Could be somewhat of a replacement if no one picks up the request.

I have, thanks. But I'm already using that one. :) I've used that unit as my Maqil Warrior for the CIV Gold version of the Yemeni Empire.

FTR, I tried playing with that one to have him ride a camel, but it's no simple substitution. Plus, the fez is a must here.

Could anyone do a indian swordsman using the fast worker's body and the chinese swordsman's sword and graphic from Warlords? That would be most good.

would it be possible to create a new mounted unit? ...im looking to get the knights body onto the conquistadors horse. im looking to make an early 17th century cuirassier and the armored horse just doesnt fit.

ive tried to do this myself but it doesnt seem to work. nifviewer errors when i try to save the file after moving the conq nif into the knight nif or vice versa to start the bone transplant process. i had success moving just the horse body file under the knight but i assume animations wont work(?) and also after i saved it, i reopened it and the hose was no longer there... it was stretched along some plane into a very thin line for reasons i do not know(because when i saved it, it klooked fine) and wouldnt readjust to its correct shape.

i hope its possible. ive not seen any transplants of mounted bodies onto new mounts before that im aware of. if anyone could help, id be very happy.

Ah the cuirassier sounds good. I always found mounted pistoliers a great idea, a bit sneaky, but good. Hopefully someone makes it.

cmhwak, here are some already made units which are very similar to what you requested. Here are some of them:

This unit from this thread http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=175490 :

You are also quite mistaken about there not being any transplants of mounted bodies on new mounts. See these threads:

I'm not trying to be obnoxious, but try to do a little bit more looking around for what you want before you request a new unit. If none of those units fit what you wanted then its ok, but I'm assuming that you didn't know about any of them before.

Have fun with the new units :)

1. none of the units you just showed me are what i requested and a number of them are already in my mod. early cuirassiers are pretty much knights with a carbine or pistol and boots (may seem a bit pointless to have all the armor but these did exist). i wanted an early 17th century cuirassier and you are showing me things which could indeed be a cuirassier but of a later era. and i have downloaded pretty much every unit in the forums with some 2-3 times because i forgot i had it already. im not quite sure why you think i didnt look over the units already because what i requested was pretty clear and there has yet to be a unit like that introduced for download.

2. im sure it CAN be done... "ive not seen any transplants of mounted bodies onto new mounts before that im aware of" ...was more of a statement to get someones intellectual juices flowing in wanting to make a mounted-mounted unit =P . like i said, i dont think ive ever seen one. i didnt see any in the links you provided either(redcoat on a horse, rifleman on a horse, maceman on a horse, settler on a horse, etc). ive had success putting a foot soldier onto a horse but for some reason i have not been able to put a mounted unit(like the knight) onto another mounted units horse(like the conquistador). it seems like it would be the same exact thing with one extra step of getting rid of the bodies previous mount-along with getting rid of the mount you wants rider. it just never worked for me.

3. chamaedrys, thats exactly what im looking for. im very happy youve already made one! im using a couple of your other units too. thanks for the time and effort, very good stuff! :p

I did a space shuttle unit for Civ3 a while back. Can someone do one for Civ4? I haven't tried any unit making yet and don't want to because I'm still trying to figure out Python :mischief:

I might try this one, but it might be a few days.

Sorry that I assumed you hadn't looked around at all cmhwak. I assumed from this sentence

that you wanted the guy to have a sword and that the pictures you gave were just showing the type of body you wanted. So once again, sorry about that

One thing I'm a little bit confused about still is what exactly is wrong with this unit. http://forums.civfanatics.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=123051&d=1144758819 From what I can tell it looks pretty much identical to your first picture, but then again I'm probably just blind. ;) I believe that you have some valid reason for not using it, I'm just very interested in the time period and I would like to know what it is.

Thanks
