Unusual architecture

That fort looks very small and easy to take!

A Bangladesh hospital is world’s ‘best new building’

A rain harvesting canal crisscrosses through the hospital. Architects say the canal is designed for microclimatic cooling and divides inpatient and outpatient wards of the hospital. The hospital was designed to not only treat people but also to encourage healing and a sense of wellness.

And it also prevents vampires from crossing to finish their job. Good design.

Green water doesn't promote anything in me other than wondering how clean it is.
I think in the hotter bits of the world green water just means water that has been exposed to the sun without anything to kill the algae. I did wonder what they do to stop it turning into a massive source of mozzies though.

I dont think it's standing water, so it shouldnt be a problem. Should it?

It is described as a canal, but I am sure the people who actually live there have thought about it.

A rain harvesting canal. I guess mozzies lay their eggs in the rainy season and the canal gets enough throughput to clear out the eggs? :dunno:

That was my first thought. Or how do you know a crocodile isn’t floating around in it.

The lack of safety-rails is what struck me. Hope no-one loses control of any gurneys / wheelchairs...

They put small fish in which eat the mosquito larvae.

The problem is often at a much smaller scale with upturned bowls and buckets
and isolated pockets of water such as large wheel ruts which hold water long enough
for algae and mosquito larvae to grow before the larvae eating fish can get there.

Coming soon to Miami:

@MaryKB Your glass house will be a reality!
I assume they employ someone to clean up the corpses of birds that kill themselves by slamming into the windows, thinking they've got clear skies ahead?

The only advantage I could see for something like that would be if the lights could be turned off below so you could have decent stargazing. Otherwise they look like godawful heat traps.

Not to mention that top level looks like it's going to fall over. That thing looks like a glass version of a Jenga game.

This nigerian Elephant house belongs in all such threads:

If you have an Elephant room, you send the message to the neighborhood that you are stronger.

PS: Sadly it seems you have to go to the roof of the main house, and be exposed before you enter the Elephant room. Which isn't cool :)

Doctors housing in Burkina Faso, designed by Diébédo Francis Kéré, winner of the 2022 Pritzker Prize,
arguably the world's most prestigious architectural award. Kéré is the first African winner of the prize.
