Up for an expansive game?

Improving wine and cancelling current fur-wine deal seems obvious when we can spare the worker turns.

A question that hasn't been raised yet is next tech after maths. I had a quick scan through and didn't fnd a GA popping so music might be worth considering before CS. We'll need meditation for philosophy of course but next GS is 7 turns away and at some point Iza may start trading again.

CS is too important to delay, and there's no guarantee we even reach music first. A big risk, which could pay off of course.

Just a reminder that with currency we can trade as much as we want without triggering worst enemy. The counter is only for lopsided trades, so as long as we even it out with gold there's no counter.

First glance micro to be done:
Work horse in troy.
Improve iron when you get the chance -- good tile even on tundra.

Yes, work the horses until you have the farm. We can also chop the forest into the Parthenon.

Philo and CS are in and HR finally kicked in: Rags is Pleased and willing to trade! We are making ~230 BPT if iirc.

We are in a good position so I allowed myself to make a terrible blunder by misinterpreting a random event. I substracted ~130 :gold: from our treasury for a Great Artist. Settled in Trojan Horse... (I thought hey a free GP!! :nono:) I'm sure Attacko would approve or something

Will try a more detailed write up tomorrow

Well done.

I would not have dared to build so little military.

I still think we should sell marble to Spain. 10 gpt is quite nice.

Are you saying you only get a "you have traded with our worst enemies" modifier if the trade you're making is in that worst enemy's favor? That's very interesting.
So what you would do is offer a tech trade, ask them "what would make this deal work" and only accept it if they throw in less than their entire available gold?

Yes I agree, the 10GPT just popped this turn or the one before. BTW Huyana went back and forth with his available GPT that's why we've got 2 resources to claim 7 GPT from him. There's an extra GPT this turn that might be claimed if we cancel the Gold trade.

Errr you made me check something and there's bad news:

However he is not WHEOOHRN and it still might be intended for Isabella... but that changes things :nuke:

Huyana made peace a couple of turns into my set and Isabella is winning the war against Ragnar (it's so easy for her she is not even in WHEOOHRN, so she can be bribed as soon as her peace treaty ends with HC if worse comes to worse).

We have a couple of cities with stacked OF so we can get out troops reasonably quickly if necessary and without too much :whipped: (I OF'd a Rustenberg chop into a Library for culture war but it can go in a spear).

We lost 3/5 Swords by capturing Khazak (renamed Keepak because I decided to keep it :mischief:) but the surviving Swords (CG2) are marching North.

Our situation:

Other things to note: I infected Ragnar with peace fever (we never know...)
Spoiler :

And the infamous GA blunder...(sorry again!)
Spoiler :

If we forget the fact that 129 :gold: is better put to use now than later, the blunder will still "pay back" in 43 turns... Convinced? :mischief:

The rest his history... good luck for the next dude!

Yes. As long as what you gain compared to what you receive is weighted equally you won't get any -diplo.

Exactly.

Wp pomthom. :)

I have to say that the Inca stack does worry me. One of few ways we can still lose this one. Might be worth it to play very safe -- this is only a SG after all.

Just discovered (and read) this excellent thread. Thanks for the entertainment :D
I will lurk and might go as far as giving useless advice.
Cheers!

The reason we do not see Isabella in WHEOOHRN is because we can ask her to attack anyone. Once the peace treaty ends Isabella will be in WHEOOHRN.

Without open borders with Hyana, Isabella can't reach Ragnar, so it will be a stalemate until they make peace.

I see I misspelled some words. WHEOOHRN is referring to the excuse the AI uses when it does not want to be bribed into an other war. If there is noone you can ask the AI to declare war against you do not get that excuse.

In other words. Isabella is busy with her war but she won't be marked as WHEOOHRN as we can't ask her to declare on Hyana. Once the peace treaty with Hyana is over she will be marked as WHEOOHRN.

Well done pomthom (the artist part was entertaining  our precious thrown away!!! Our precious...)

@folket: can u take my turn for this roster rotation? This way we could keep the game going during the holydays. If so, you are up!

I 'll comment the save in a few but i can only post post from the phone and it's kinda annoying, so don't expect much :goodjob:

Ah yes OK, good to know!
:goodjob:

I could make a PPP in two or three days. then play the day after that.

Now that SGOTM is over, I finally had time to take a look at the file. :goodjob:

Things seem to be going well. Marble should be sold (as was suggested). We are lucky that HR is the favorite civic of both HC and Ragnar. That should make life a little safer... (let's hope :run:)

Ragnar may well peace vassal to Huayna, just as soon as HC gets a hold of Feudalism. I would personally trade with Ragnar for several useful techs ASAP, before he researches CS/CoL/Literature for himself. I myself would prefer Metal Casting + Sailing > Feudalism, but the latter would provide the safest defense against a backstab, if that is a concern.

I know that we are not in OR, but I still don't like to build Wealth when there are so many useful buildings available. Most cities would benefit from a Forge; several (like the capital) from a Baray; a Buddhist Monastery would also help in the capital, and Missionaries can spread the word to Uzbek and Rustenberg (Uzbek is, btw, running two Scientists in Pacifism, but without the 100% GP boost due to the absence of Buddhism). Coastal cities will OFC need Lighthouses in 5-10 turns.

Have you considered settling 3E of Amphibia, or 3N of Awesome Venn? There seems to be a (mediocre) filler city spot just waiting to be settled, and there are Forests present to chop infrastructure. Food can temporarily be borrowed from surrounding cities.

Did an AI on the other continent reach Music first? Although we were the first to Philosophy, I am still a little wary about the Lib race, since Buddhism/Hinduism/Judaism were all founded on our continent whereas the other continent seems to be experiencing a Confucianism love-fest.

Bad news: my civ4 laptop has died (after the network card, the screen and alim are broken ... the evidence is clear: don't put your laptop in the bottom of your bag ) so I won't be able to open the save before the first of 2014 (txfully I have a desktop at home ) Nevertheless, I'll comment from screenies.

all good points.

Last time I could open the save (before pomthom's round), we had too few improvements up and way too few workers (it doesn't look much better from recent screenies and the ratio worker/improvements needed looks more awfull now that we have CS), so I would postpone this till we get some decent workforce. Most cities are also still small so more food sharing doesn't seem the way to go.

A good argument to keep on building gold (exception: workers/forges) :mischief:

Merry christmas folks! :snowcool:
