Well I say release the unit and I'm sure one of us will figure something out Virote.

Another possibility for the death is having him drop onto the ground quickly and roll into a fetal position. Worked for my plumed archer(was about the only thing that came out of that unit that was good )

I opted for the previous kilt problem, probably being the easiest to C'n'P...

Just follow Plot's advise and create a new material and assign it to the thigh. That will be considerably easier (and save a lot of time) than fixing it with clumsy cut n' paste jobs. Just remember to texture it accordingly and it will look ace (I've used this method myself, and can only vouch for its effectiveness).

But the problem with that, is that if any part of the thigh is visible outside the kilt, which I think it does in the death animation, it will still look very out of place

Create a small sphere, strech it out into an oval and place it in the right spot. Basically, make a patch.

So, yesterday I worked a little on the Mounted Balkan guy, but today, I felt like something different:

I'm currently working on Dacians. This is the first guy I'm working on, although most of them are going to look pretty much like this, anyway.

He's loosely based off of the Dacian images found here, and also the images on dbaol.com.

A question: How can I texture just a part of one material, whilst leaving the rest of it alone? Is this possible with some hassle-free method, or am I going to have to put my back into it?

The specific part which I want to texture is the puffy bit on the shins, a la the 2nd picture posted in the above link.

Turns out there's only one page with paintings of Dacians. Everything else is of Germanics of one sort or another (which is cool in its own right!). Here's what I've got:

Dacian Tribal Warrior

Here's the text on each:

3. Dacian Tribal Warrior:

The Dacian tribal warrior, B3, wears cream-coloured trousers, sometimes decorated with bands of black embroidered patterns. The two-handed weapon is the murderous falx, and iron battle-scythe with the cutting edgeon the inside of the curve; the falx, and the similar but one-handed sica, were the ethnic weapons of the Thracian peoples in general, and were used by part of the infantry of all Thracian groups.

So should you decide to do a falxman, thus replacing utahjazz7's old one, make sure to have him chop with the inside of the curve instead of the outside, like utah's unit does!

2. Dacian Dismounted Horseman:

The dismounted Dacian horseman, B2, wears a fringed cloak held by a silver ring-brooch, and natural-coloured linen tunic and trousers decorated at hem, cuffs and lower leg with red and black embroidery. His weapons are a seven-foot spear, and a long La Tène sword supported by a waist belt with added bronze plates: such weapons were probably still being produced in eastern Europe by Celtic smiths.

1. Dacian Chieftain:

The chieftain, B1, wears a bronze helmet of Phygrian type, a corselet of iron 'leaf'-scale armour, and a black wool tunic and trousers decorated with red and white embroidery at hems and lower legs. The wool cloak, in a simple 'tartan' pattern, would probably be discarded before battle; plain colours, or a 'herringbone tweed' texture are also possible. Dacian shields shown on Trajan's Column are oval in shape, and those sculpted on the base of the column show how large and how richly decorated they were. A shield found at Pietra-Rosie in Romania, at present unpublished, bears plant motifs, and the likeness of a boar in the centre. Varieties of Dacian shields may be present on the triumphal relief from Trajan's Forum, now to be seen on the Arch of Constantine: one borne by a dismounted Praetorian trooper is oblong, with floral decoration, and a hexagonal type decorated with four Celtic carnyx trumpets and torques is seen carried by a Dacian.

Some points 'n' stuff:
*The top knot will be changed
*The loincloth on the dhoti looks a little too much like a dhoti- does anyone who's made any Indian units have any tips on how to make it look less like a loincloth and more like a dhoti?
*I need a "mutton chop" mustache - does anyone know where one can be found?
