Watersportsgate

@metalhead Yeah, my question was more or less in regards to the POTUS directly as opposed to someone close to them. Like GEFM said, whoever wins, we all lose because the IC will become emboldened to do the same to future presidents, whereas they would have never defied the president so boldly previously.

The pentagon papers under LBJ ?

I would say that this shows that you already have lost, and are only realizing it now.

But there is a potential upside: If Trump starts a personal vendetta against the IC, he'll be busy, their power might be reduced and everybody else wins.

The President has (unjustly) called the IC liars to their face before. See: WMDs and Bush
Doesn't seem they were called liars? Afaik they were told they were WRONG and that the VP and others in the cabinet had access to better, correct info that disagreed with theirs, and they had better come up with confirmation.

The thing about "Kompromat" is that it need not be even remotely true to have an effect.

If the US president starts a fight with his intelligence community over Russia sex-scapades, even if bogus, it will effectively render the US prez blind to parts of the world and the US intel agencies ineffectual pro tem.

But the Russians likely have a whole Trump Kompromat library because its what they do and what he'd fall for...
In the very least that would explain why Trump, who is usually unrestrained with his attacks on people and countries, is consistently pro-Russian, as opposed to almost every other US politician. Something about that is very fishy.

The wife of Caesar should be above suspicion as they say.

Because they never had reason to?
Defying a democraticaly elected president with made up garbage and no evidence is a treason which regardless of the "reason" for doing so makes it an adept for a thorough purge.
Maybe the IC will live up to Trump's accusation.
Alternativelly you can pull your head out of your arse and see things for what they are.

Yeah, Trump needs to purge those disloyal Nazis.

Yeah, specially the self loathing type nazis like Ivanka and Jared, just to name a few....

My mistake, that was more of a whistleblower leak
Then a Intelligence leak to influence the public

Weren't the papers released under Nixon, though?

Possible its the CIA is getting back at Trump for humiliating them
Its also plausible that Trump, given hes "locker room talk", extra marital affairs and own books regarding hes sexual adventures including 15 years ago regarding Russian women.
Its funny though, Media went crazy over Clintons Emails, Obamas birth certificate is now all over the idea of this Russian Sex tape, given how Trump played the media on fake scandels to damage hes opponents.

But hey welcome to TRUMPLAND

CIA 'believes Russia has more than one Donald Trump sex tape and second source claims it DOES exist'
BBC's Washington correspondent Paul Wood claims to have sources who also believe Russia has blackmail evidence on President-elect

But last night the BBC's Washington correspondent Paul Wood said he had been alerted to the existence of a Trump sex tape by a second source last August.

Steele is said to be a highly-respected Russian expert who spent many years in the British intelligence service before setting up his own private business.
“Russia does have a history of exporting violence against people who act against its interests as we saw with former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko.”

And my parrot told me there is a THIRD ONE. He was a highly respected russian parrot too. Or so I say.

How have you erred, let me count the ways:

Defying...

It is a free citizen's duty to "defy" a would-be despot. It is the duty of a democratic ruler to obey the citizens, not the other way around.

...a democratically-elected president with made up garbage...

What is your evidence this information was made up?

...and no evidence ...

You've forgotten the dossier submitted by a well-respected British agent, who has a long history of honesty, accuracy, and reliability. Apparently, similar reports were received months ago from an Eastern European intelligence agency.

... is a treason ...

"Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort."
...US Constitution, Art. III, sec. 3.

... which regardless of the "reason" for doing so makes it an adept for a thorough purge.

Despots do love their purges: Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Hussein, etc.

Guys please just brain up:
1. Do you really think Trump can be blackmailed via "sex tape"? I dont think so...
2. "If" he was some kind of big pervert then I guarantie you US IC would have some compro as well in which case it would have already leaked out ages ago.

The whole "problem" is that there is no compro and Trump cant be controlled that way. What does it says about the forces involved in current power struggle and about the state of American democracy is for you to judge...

I think its hard to fathom but then this is Trump, who bragged about his penis size and hides his tax returns...
