Actually, I have several exact same shirts, white point collar French cuff oxfords. It is much easier to buy shirts from a company when you know how those shirts fit you at thus and such a size. White oxfords are very versitile shirts when worn with suits so that's helpful as well.
The sartorial problem I have now is actually a deficit of business casual wear. My office wears business casual dress, which is unusual for a law office. If I were wearing suits every day I would be fine with wearing the same type of shirt on a daily basis, but I do not have enough business casual shirts in my closet at the moment. I’m thinking the immediate solution is to get a blazer and just wear my oxfords with the blazer and no tie. Wearing an oxford with no jacket feels weird.
I’m also encountering an unexpected problem with my cuffs. I wear French cuffs, but the court we go to, because it is in a prison facility, disallows most forms of personal jewelry even for attorneys. This includes cufflinks so I need to get some silk knots for my cuffs. What’s more, I had all suit’s pants fitted for suspenders, but the prison would prefer I wear belts. Oh well.
OK. Man talk.
Ditch the suspenders and the french cuff shirts. This is either old man fancy or trying too hard for everyday work fancy. Save cuffs for certain occasions. Save suspenders for...never? Forget they exist, erase them from your memory.
Get a few decent suits that fit well. Nice fit is the key. Two black ones, one grey one, one dark blue one, maybe a beige/brown one. Collect these as you go. Start with black and grey. These do not have to be expensive. But they MUST fit well. If there is no tailor involved in the process, run away.
It sounds like you have a bunch of shirts that fit well. Good. That is important. Me, I try to have a bunch (5-10) of all purpose dress shirts in my rotation. I also like certain brands that I know fit me well, like Kenneth Cole slim fit, because I am cheap when it comes to everyday clothes, as lonmg as they fit. White, light blue, dark blue are the foundational ones. Maybe a yellow one. Maybe a pink one. Maybe a grayish one. Ignore the Gordon Gecko white collar "hi there I am a jerk" shirts. They don't have to be fancy. Kenneth Cole, etc. We're talking Nordstrom Rack shirts here. They can be cheap because you will wear them almost every day and you can just get a new one when they start fading or get bad stains. Get a belt that fits well. Get a bunch of ties. With the occasional dry clean of your suits and proper shirt rotation this wardrobe will be your suit of armor. You will wear it constantly. It will last for years with minimal need for replacements or updating. It will work for business casual (tuck that kenneth cole slim fit shirt into some khakis or into a nice pair of Levi 501's or put it under a sweater--voila, business casual.) It will work for court, just put on a tie. It will work everywhere in your professional life. It will work for weddings and other special occasions.
I'd be shocked if at your office you cannot get away with a suit but sans tie for casual. Just take off the jacket at the office and roll up your sleeves. Casual and competent. Anyways I always keep a spare suit at the office in case I need to go to court in an emergency. I call it my Superman suit.
Splurge on....SHOES. Buy a nice, fancy pair of shoes. Buy another nice looking but not as expensive pair. Black, brown or brownish grayish. Done.
Once you have some dough, invest in one nice suit and one or two nice shirts for special occasions.
