What do you think of martinis? Vodka, Gin, something else?
Do you think that martinis are classy?
Do you think that the drink a person prefers reflects upon that person?

Personally, I like martinis. Preferable Hendricks (gin) martinis. I do not think of the fruity or sweet martinis as proper martinis.

I'm shaken, but not stirred.

Vodka martini is of course the proper way to enjoy a martini, no gin.

EDIT: Thinking about it, gin martinis are the best, vodka is for numpties. Ignore my previous comment.

I got drunk on martini once and removed the varnish off my bed.

That was more than thirty years ago and I have not had one since.

they were classy before they went mainstream.

The first time I tried a martini I was just a teenager and hadn't really had much experience with drinking. Naturally, it was horrible. I haven't had one since, but this thread has got me thinking that I should give it another shot. Although I'm not really a gin kind of guy...

Me and my dad recently had Martini, simply because it's one of those things only other people seem to do. It was better than I expected.

Damn straight.

Try a Hendrick's martini. Not, dry or dirty, just regular (and with a cucumber garnish, if at all possible). Not every place has Hendrick's, but if they do then it speaks highly of of their bar and their 'tenders should be able to pour you a good one.

Never had one. I don't like vodka that much, but I'd be down to try a real proper dry gin martini one o' these days.

As for my feelings about them, I've always seen them as kind of an older person's drink...someone in their 20's drinking a martini just seems kinda weird.

And yes, you definitely can judge someone by what they like to drink.

Prefer a good G and T.

Yeah I'm very firmly on the gin martini side of the fence, since gin has a flavour that isn't just "ethanol flavour".
I like them if the occasion is right, and they have the advantage of lacking the sickly sweetness of so many other cocktails.

On a more practical note, if you're at a cocktail place that's doing a 2-for-1-cocktails happy hour or something, or if you're just in a situation where cocktails are the order of the day, a martini with its two full shots of full-strength spirits will often have the best alcohol-per-dollar ratio of the available options

Also when did they go mainstream? Are we talking just recently or "ever since Goldfinger"? I'm not really up on these trends

Gin isn't a drink. It's an all-purpose cleaner. I would sooner drink lysol.

I mix Martini with Sprite. The result is cheap, lasts long(er) and actually tastes alright.
