I've been remodeling the house.
I've turned the TV area 90 degrees, took out a big picture window, and replaced it with louvers for ventilation and with my wide screen TV. This gave me room to bring in an upholstered living room set. I put lots of photos on now-vacant the wall, and lined the walls with racks so I can increase my DVD collection.
In the master bedroom, I took out the rarely-used walk-in closet and converted my never-used seaside balcony into an extension of my bedroom, which is now HUGE.
We're currently working on a street-side extension to the house. The main purpose is to put in an elevator shaft. Last February, I suffered some mini-strokes (from which I've recovered), but sooner or later the Big One will hit, and I'll be confined to a wheelchair. I'll need an elevator to get between floors. I'd like to get one of the new vacuum elevators; they cheap, reliable and low maintenance, but they are not yet available here in the Philippines. So as a place-holder, I'm going to install a large dumbwaiter. Next to the dumbwaiter, I'll be putting in an Arabian cooling tower, for which I've invented a way to keep out rainwater...a problem Arabs don't have to deal with.
Along with the dumbwaiter, the first floor of my new extension will have a pantry, right off my kitchen.
The second floor will have a small hot tub, which I need for my back, which can go into debilitating spasms.
Remember my third floor? Rather than have my attic sit atop my second floor, I've raised it up one level, so that I have a large patio, which keeps my house in shade. The third-floor is a great place for parties. The new room here will be for food-prep and food storage and maybe for use as an emergency extra bedroom.
