What have you achieved in 2015?

Moved house after 31 years in my old one.

Also "found" a "new" "girl-friend".

(Not sure these count as achievements, though. They're just things that happened.)

There's like 45 days left in the year, eh? That's like 12% of the year left! Still more than enough time to accomplish stuff!

My accomplishments this year so far:

- I went to Norway and didn't die.
- Hung out in the arctic circle for the first time ever.
- Became a season ticket holder for a team I support (TFC)
- Got two broken sections of my fence fixed. Got my backyard gate fixed too.
- Learned how to paint using acrylic paints on canvas. First painting complete!
- Finally watched Star Trek IV : The Voyage Home

I basically ruined everything I had build up in my life up to this year

I haven't even finished drafting the final version of my 2015 Goals List yet. Which is a bit depressing. But I bought a new flat and a new car and started taking flying lessons, so I supposed I'm not stagnating too much, even though I don't feel I've actually achieved much of anything this year.

Lost 40 pounds.
Officiated a funeral service.
Finally got my facial hair right.
Got my JD.
Cut my hair.
Perfected cooking hamburgers and steak.
Ended a seven year relationship.
Learned to ride a horse.
Got back into performance poetry.

Oh god, this topic again. I''ll have to think about it. Ask me again when it's closer to new year's.

Let's see...what had I planned at the beginning of the year?

- publish 3 manuscripts (okay, 2 are written, so that should be possible)
- continue with sports (and ideally get rid of some fat; != lose weight)
- get even more active
- get a GF before I turn 30
- until the point above: Ask out at least one girl/month
- need to do at least one thing which counts as "crazy", so that I have something to tell in case someone asks me that again

Sounds all very likely, besides #4 and #6.

#1: Fail, not even one, although one has been submitted (lousy track record :/ ).
#2: Sports yes, fat loss no, so that's a tie.
#3: Yeah, busy all the time
#4: Fail, not even a date.
#5: Fail, yeah, see above.
#6: Fail. Unless ordering strippers for my birthday party counts.

I'm going to add to my list:
- start a martial arts (Kickboxing is on the list)
- get a positive attitude
- speak to a new person each day

Last one is also likely to fail, but let's try :D.

#1: Yes, and stopped it, that's also a tie.
#2: I'd think so. I feel happier and more positive, although other people say that I'm still pretty negative.
#3: Fail. Already in the second week, oops.

I have to admit that your posts do seem more chipper lately and it's pretty obvious you are at least making an effort to meet girls. I predict great success soon! You get better at it and it gets easier the more you try so even when you fail, don't get upset because you learn from the failures even if it is only subconsciously.

- I went to Norway and didn't die.
Yeah we really dropped the ball on that one. Sorry everybody! In my defence, he didn't venture far enough north to spring any traps of mine.

Why not? You've lost everything you had, you're cold and uncomfortable, and you've got to figure out how to breathe with that thin thing we call air (and fast, before you suffocate). No?
What "next time"?

Next time you've built something. Try to be careful not to destroy it. Not all at once at least, because it feels bad. Ok?

With my wife helped start Kadoo's here in the Philippines, a place for burgers and Chop Suey among other Philippine/Asian foods, and a bar featuring fresh fruit margaritas. Employing half a dozen people who needed a job. Three single mothers, one male head of household and 2 young ladies needing work. Think we're making a few pesos as well, particularly since we started charging to swim. We charge P30 for an adult. Bajang Springs (sp) charges P50, and Cliff Haven P200. So its a good deal particularly for what we spend in running the motor and chlorine. I think Cliff Haven uses chlorine as well. I'm just glad we're no longer carrying that cost out of burger sales as we were losing money. Maybe in December we'll raise it a bit as that starts busy season. For poor local folks we offer a significant break in the pool fee. I like the kids to be able to come swimming.
Great, keep it up.

Back in the '60s went to Circle, Alaska. But it's not within the arctic circle, bummer.

Alaska is beautiful.

Alaska's on my list. Got a family friend out there.

edit: However, I should note that the Norwegian arctic circle is far different from what you'll find in North America. The weather during the summer is very mild and temperate due to the gulf stream and hot reindeer

I always thought that "deep sea fishing expedition" sounded fishy.

The closest I came to dying was on the kjeragbolten rock hike - I climbed on top of the rock while it was windy (and after a lot of rain). Not really super close to death, but one slip and I would have been gone. Was freaky up there. Had to be super careful. One girl literally took off everything except for base layer. Not sure why that would help, but taking off the boots made sense at least - hers didn't have great grip. And taking off her jacket was a good idea since the wind made it into a bit of a sail. The rest of what she did was I guess probably a bit of a psychological thing.. She went right after me, I was a bit scared for her and didn't even look while she did her thing.. No way would I have been able to do anything if she fell, and I do not want to see that..

Also could have died on a couple other hikes, notably when I took a wrong turn on the Reinebringen hike. Had to end up climbing scary rocks. There were also a couple other cases where one wrong turn or slip would have lead to my death, but.. I was careful.

I'm sure there would have been no way for me to be careful on that boat of yours.

-Moved out
-Learned Latin
-Made new friends
-Started dating again
-Got to see my grandma for the first time in 6 years

Negative:
-Still didn't get my [feces] together in time to apply to grad school. Because I'm a dope. But I did make some actual progress on it this time around, rather than the non-progress of the few years before it. Which is good I suppose.

I was a complete and total mess at the start of this year. So I definitely feel that I'm much better off now than I was 10 months ago. I'm still pissed off at myself for being my usual flakey socially neurotic self but the way I handled the last 5 months on that front can't be helped. I'll just have to be less of a dumbass this year.

I've been remodeling the house.

I've turned the TV area 90 degrees, took out a big picture window, and replaced it with louvers for ventilation and with my wide screen TV. This gave me room to bring in an upholstered living room set. I put lots of photos on now-vacant the wall, and lined the walls with racks so I can increase my DVD collection.

In the master bedroom, I took out the rarely-used walk-in closet and converted my never-used seaside balcony into an extension of my bedroom, which is now HUGE. :D

We're currently working on a street-side extension to the house. The main purpose is to put in an elevator shaft. Last February, I suffered some mini-strokes (from which I've recovered), but sooner or later the Big One will hit, and I'll be confined to a wheelchair. I'll need an elevator to get between floors. I'd like to get one of the new vacuum elevators; they cheap, reliable and low maintenance, but they are not yet available here in the Philippines. So as a place-holder, I'm going to install a large dumbwaiter. Next to the dumbwaiter, I'll be putting in an Arabian cooling tower, for which I've invented a way to keep out rainwater...a problem Arabs don't have to deal with.

Along with the dumbwaiter, the first floor of my new extension will have a pantry, right off my kitchen.

The second floor will have a small hot tub, which I need for my back, which can go into debilitating spasms.

Remember my third floor? Rather than have my attic sit atop my second floor, I've raised it up one level, so that I have a large patio, which keeps my house in shade. The third-floor is a great place for parties. The new room here will be for food-prep and food storage and maybe for use as an emergency extra bedroom.
