What should the US response Be?

While the desire for revenge is certainly understandable, to demand vengeance in attacking countries or bombing things only reduces us to the same level as those who would do such a horrific thing. Point of fact is that no one has (publicly) claimed responsibility as of yet, so who would you attack? We must keep our heads and not let this event draw us into actions we'll later regret. This is NOT to say that whatever organization responsible for this shouldn't be rounded up and locked away forever (or worse).

But it seems that I was incorrectly informed and that no one has yet to take the blame and the US still doesn't know much!!

To answer your question H Tower, nothing. The US should accept that this is a tragic act that has cost the lives of many innocent people but should not let this spur them on to the eradication of entire nations as you seem to suggest. Leowind is absolutely correct in his summation of the situation, but I fear that many Americans will not see things as level-headedly as he does and will demand recompense of whichever country the blame is attributed to. The first victims of the finger-pointing were the Palestinians, but I severely doubt that every single Palestinian was involved in a huge plot on this. It is something that was planned and carried out by a small group of extremists (for whichever cause we don't yet know) and so mass retaliation will just result in the extermination of even more innocents. I feel very concerned for all Muslims currently living in the US as they would seem to be the obvious target for the thoughtless retaliation of those who seek vengeance, whether a Muslim terrorist group was responsible or not. There is a very dangerous suspicion that works both ways between the US and Islam and this could provoke a very stupid and unnecessary holy war. Please don't let this be so.

Find out the suspects, then find the culprits, and destroy them. they have forfeited their right to humanity. There will a military/armed response, IMO. The calls for vengeance will drown out the voices of moderation.

Suspects include DFLP (Carlos the Jackals old mates), Bin Laden backed by Afghans. They are main. DFLP command has denied earlier report, and Arafat has condemned it.<br />Don't discount Iraqi involvement in funding, or operational control. they have a long history of supporting terrorist actions.<br />I don't think Libya, or Iranian government, but maybe extremist factions within the latter. they did have a training program for suicide pilots.

Or it could be domestic, or another group, but I doubt this given the level of coordination and funding involved.

Bin Laden will end up dead bcos of this, even if he didn't do it.

First priority is rescue work, and treatment, and investigation. FBI etc are very good at this, and every intell agency in the world will have its feelers out.

I see the US responding using air and missile strikes, as well as covert specfor ops. Ground intervention anywhere unlikely, but CVBGs will see some action.

I don't think it's the time for revenge. I DO think that the folks responsible should be caught and punished. Now is the time for calm, however. I know that we'll find out who did this. I don't think that innocent people should be caught up in our lust for revenge. I'm kind of whacked in the head right now, because I can't believe this has happened.

Juize obviously hasn't read any of my previous posts if he thinks I'm a "typical" American who actually thinks those things. He obviously doesn't know how I feel about how America generally projects itself into the world. He's obviously lumped me into the pile of Ameri-centric folks much of the rest of the world despises.

Those who know me know he couldn't be farther from the truth. Perhaps our response could be to send an occupying force to Palestine and stop Israeli attacks on them, giving them a guaranteed homeland? Obviously terrorist attacks between the two sides would continue, but a third-party U.N. policing force could cut down on those and stop the Israeli army attacks. With a safe homeland, the Palestinian griefs would be less, and the terrorism would lessen. Then we could leave the rest of the Muslim countries alone.

This was done because we've ruined people's lives in the Mideast. Maybe we should stop. And supporting Israel is supporting the most anti-semitic country in the world.

Pres. Bush said we have to hunt down the "folks" who commited this act. He seems to forget that they're already dead. I don't see that huge conspiracies or governments were behind this...All it needs is 12 guys who went to pilot school who buy plastic guns. 2 to a plane, kill the pilot, fly into a building.

To kundor- I just gave you some pictures. Do you happen to have any pictures of Israel attacking Palestinians not in retaliation or to stop their terrorists? You can't. To be honest I never had high thoughts about the US. They're ignorant when you look at the world environment and they think they're the rulers of the world.

But these thoughts do not compare with an act such as the one of today. These terrorists must be punished! Locked up forever with no contact with the outside world what so ever (I'm also totally against death penalty.)! Still I don't believe the Palestinians are responsible.
