What type of place would you like to live in?

I would like to live somewhere bright and cheerful. Any place will do. I like the climate where I live, but I live in a cold, dark house. I really should sell it, but it has so many memories, good and bad. Maybe I could at least open the curtains from time to time. The maid does, but I shut them right away after she's gone.

The woman I am dating is navigating the dark wasteland that is my life and she's breathing light into it. Who knows? Maybe I'll open the curtains some day. I know she would like that.

Hopfully, casting light on the wasteland reveals the waste, so you can take out the garbage

If I had millions of dollars, I'd want to live in a castle (but with modern amenities, like electricity, plumbing, internet, and such), somewhere in the mountains preferably, with a lake and clear skies. I'd want to have permanent house staff in residence (paid very well), and dozens of cats and other animals. Also plenty of children.
Minus the children and non-cat animals, that's my lottery dream.

The local SCA group threw me a surprise party on my 30th birthday. During our meal and game of Eurorails, we pooled our ideas on a hypothetical castle we'd design and build. We decided it would include an archery range and feast hall, not to mention copious room for creative projects, a huge kitchen... everything we could think of. Of course I wanted a large room set aside for a library.

Cool back cover, when does the book come out? :D

For those of you who want a fantasy castle Google Riverstone Castle Otago New Zealand.

Sounds like Edgar Allan Poe setting, has the raven ever been above Your chamber door saying something about never more ? ;) But hey I close my curtains all the time too because the sun shines right into my monitor screen. I guess I'm not much of a fan of bright sunlight either (after all I want to live in a bunker :mischief:). I hope the girl You're dating will bring You very much needed inner light into Your life. "fingers crossed" ;)

Speaking of castles - Don't forget about huge games room ! Filled with large supply of board games, gaming tables, dance floor, VR sims and modern video-games set up fo LAN parties ! ^^ And with the 3D sound system and lightning system for the mood ;) (Changing light color ant intensity would be cool, also a few cadelabras and a fireplace would be a cool addition for playing those fantasy RPG's) Oh and a LARP room as well ! :D

My hometown, lady built a castle on a farm.

Very nice restaurant there.

Only a room? You do realize that if you have a castle, you need the grounds to go with it (how else can you go for your morning hunt, or have a huge formal garden?). I've never participated in LARP, but knew someone on an RPG forum who wrote his LARP adventures into a story and would post "chapters" at regular intervals. He worked on that project for years, until forum politics blew up and he deleted everything.

There's a LARP storyline in the Fuzzy Knights webcomic.

I'm sure I'd be equally happy/miserable in most places. The only deal breakers are that it can't be somewhere too warm (>30C) or with no access to nature.

The Washington Post, 22 August 2019 - "Visiting a park boosts your happiness like Christmas morning, new research shows"

The Washington Post said:
According to a new study by researchers at the University of Vermont, city dwellers can not only overcome crankiness by spending time at a public park, but they can also be rewarded with a happiness boost akin to the jolt of euphoria one might get on Christmas morning.
Well, I don't know about any "jolt of euphoria" on Christmas, but I do find that walking through a park improves my mood. I would definitely need any place I live to have greenery nearby.

Parks and other green pockets in an urban setting is probably very important for a lot of city dwellers well being. Not sure if it would cut it for me in the long run as part of the allure of nature is getting away from people. Somewhat harder to achieve in a park. Although I guess that depends on the park..

Also if you have a car. Here in the US, some cities are a short drive to wilderness so deep that it can literally kill you. About 10 years ago, a retired UFC champion living in Los Angeles drove out to the desert to enjoy his new dirt-bike. Evidently, his bike ran out of gas and decided to hike back to his car, where he had extra gasoline and extra water. A US Marine helicopter found his body a week later. Once or twice a year, there's a story from places like Colorado or California about a black bear breaking into someone's home and raiding the kitchen (is it a coincidence that both of those states legalized marijuana? Dude, I have the munchies so bad right now.). A friend who lives about hour from me once had a wolverine rooting around his back yard. Europe is way more crowded, of course.

I really wish we had more large predators around here. You'll have to be pretty damn lucky to spot one. Attacks on humans are so rare it pretty much never happens, be it bear, wolfs, wolverines or what have you. If the wilderness kills you it'll be due to a fall or an avalanche or something. Or I suppose the cold if you get lost.

Who, or what, wouldn't like you?

If you eat plenty of sweets, I'm certain the bears up there will like you very much! :)

Oh you. I like to think I'd be able to negotiate my way out of a bear encounter. Specially if I bring those sweets you're talking about.

Something surrounded by nature, i really like gardening..growing tomatos and other yummy stuff.
Seeing animals would be a bonus, so would be nice forest paths for walks. I dislike city hype.
An alternative would be the sea.
No real opinion on country or house style, could adapt.

Of course You're right ;) LARP would probably extend to the entirety of the castle and surrounding grounds, after all it's the dream set-up for the medieval action RPG ! Thanks for the info too . I'll be sure to check out Fuzzy Knight webcomic sometime in the near future :) btw. For RPG oriented webcomic with lots of humor and "I'm gonna have to go 20 on this" situations (of the "breaking the 4th wall" kind) I recommend "The Order of the Stick" webcomic , it is really awesome ! ;)
