What Video Games have you been playing II: Have you finished that backlog?

Just finished my first twelve-win arena run in Hearthstone. I lost the first game, then won all the rest. I also now have over 1600 gold, so... yeah.

I also started making my way through the Magic 2014 DotP campaign. The UI is so bad compared to Hearthstone, but Magic is different enough that it's still fun.

 on both accounts!

Have you faced the Avacyn's Glory deck? It's like the best deck in the game and they make you face it as the FOURTH duel. It's sooo annoying. It doesn't help that the burn deck in 2014 is janky as hell.

That's the one with all the land spells/creatures, right? I actually thought he was pretty easy, since he never really played any threatening creatures I could just pummel his face in every turn. I looked through the cards after I beat him, and it's interesting and seems powerful, but just way way too slow.

I remember playing M:tG with physical cards in the late '90s. I think I still have a folder-full somewhere.

It's the white Human based one. I was able to beat him with the green deck with some luck but it's probably the strongest deck in the game. Fiend Hunters, Oblivion Rings, Champion of the Parish, Unruly Mobs, and Mentor of the Meek can all be a HUGE pain in the ass.

It's this one although I could swear he has multiple Champions of the Parish. It would have been a lot less dumb if the burn deck had actual burn spells instead of like freaking Inferno(I'm sorry if i'm spending 5RR I better be casting Apocalypse, Decree of Annhilation or a Dragon).

Oh, that one! Yeah, that was pretty annoying. Champion is ridiculous at only 1 mana.

I've been playing a lot of the Full Invasion 2 mod for Warband.
There are really fun matchups possible (I've seen Assassins vs Barbarians, Romans vs dinosaur- wait Romans suck) but somehow the community either wants to play out their LOTR fantasies or 300 fantasies.

Respect!

In the spirit of the '90s, I've decided to start playing Freespace II again.

You should bust out some graph paper and The Bard's Tale while you're at it. Make it a tour.

Just finished Assassin's Creed IV. Now onto Deus Ex, then have a backlog of Splinter Cell (came with my video card) and Alan Wake.

Please explain.

Well, it'd be an 80s tour, so you'd get two decades of gaming in. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bard's_Tale_(1985_video_game)

Or if you want something slightly less hardcore, try Might & Magic VI - it's a long-arse, free exploration game, but it comes with automapping. :)

Don't forget to check out the ACIV community challenge currently ongoing!

Why would he want less hardcore? <confused>

By the way, when you graph? Use pencil.

I don't mind difficult games, but I at least like to know where I'm going in a game, even if I can't find what I'm looking for!

Is that the warehouse one?

I never really understood what I got for completing those. I never saw and notifications or anything, I just see stuff in my inventory that says it was received from completing a community challenge.

I think I am done with that game. It was fun and I like the backstory, I want more. But the Jackdaw is fit with all the meaningful elite upgrades, (e.g., hull, mortars, swivel) I have the Mayan and Templar suits, and I can basically kick any mob's butt--being stealthy is unnecessary now. I only did one of the four legendary ships but, meh. I have no use for reales, I have so many already. Kenway's Fleet is fully stocked with top shelf Man O' Wars. I feel complete. Plus I feel like a

deadbeat dad galavanting around and leaving my daughter back home alone in my pirate den.

Is there anything other than more backstory info and easter eggs in the meta Abstergo game? Having not played any of the prior AC's I found those probably less rewarding than some.

You do get some good stuff from the community challenges, but if by the "meta Abstergo game" you mean hacking the computers and suchlike, then no, I don't believe so. You definitely get a lot more out of the Abstergo plot if you've played some of the previous games in the series (AC1, AC2 and ACB are my favourites).

Maybe playing Indiana Jones and the Fate of Lost Atlantis would be a good idea.

I'm trying to have fun with Gothic 3, but the combat seems really broken. My character, veteran of two games, has again lost all his skills without justification and is swinging his sword like a bloody amateur. In some cases it is better to melee with a bow instead of a sword and shoot enemies while walking backwards since their melee range is as pathetic as mine, but then I'll run out of arrows. A single wolf is a serious challenge, two are almost impossible and I don't even stand a chance against a boar. Think The Witcher 2 without the possibility to dodge/roll. I can only deal with enemies one on one.
I hope it gets better after I got a couple of combat skills because it actually does look like a promising open world RPG. I really hope this games becomes good once this hero of two games relearns to equip a goddamned shield or a two handed weapon.

Oh my god I loved that game. I think that was my first experience with far out pseudo-mythology stuff like Atlantis and what not. I was around 11 or 12 at the time.

And this was back when you had to go to libraries and such to indulge your random inquisitory impulses. I couldn't just google "atlantis" after beating the game... kids these days!
