What Video Games have you been playing II: Have you finished that backlog?

So I realized I had Bowser's Inside Story and had never finished it. Pretty fun game, they were creative with the mechanics as they often are in Mario games and some of the special attacks are really bizarre in a good way. My only real complaint is some of the "minigame" sequences that can be a pain in the ass in the main story but thankfully they're fairly infrequent. The bonus minigames are obviously and thankfully optional because they're insane in what they ask you to do for pitiful reward. Again, they're entirely optional so I can't really take off many points for that.

Also the fight against Super Peach's Castle as Giant Bowser was pretty b.s. lol. It's kinda dumb when a boss says, and I quote, "LAUNCH UNAVOIDABLE ATTACK" in a game pretty much built around avoiding/blocking attacks. I bet a lot of kids ended up throwing their DS because of this boss. :p

Also weird story there, I originally wanted to start on The World Ends With You that I got like a year ago but I can't find the damn thing, and now the Inside Story box has Partners in Time in it which I'm almost positive I NEVER BOUGHT.

I don't know how I can play the same oblivion side quest for, what, the third or fifth or tenth time, and I still love it.

Oblivion still can inspire me, catch my imagination, even now.

Also, playing oblivion with the atronarch birth sign definitely makes things harder (or more rather it's a new playstyle I have to get used to). Also harder since I did an alternate start and started off poor, and since I'm a goody two shoes and won't steal. Enjoying it, though.

Hearthstone is officially out of beta. The bug fixes are really nice, some cool new animations too. There's other cool stuff as well, but for the most part it's the same.

Should I get Dark Souls II for Xbox 360 now, or should I wait for the PC release on 25th April? The PC release will have better textures and higher resolution, as well as (presumably) mod support.

XBox 360 will work for sure. PC will probably work fine after their last experience with a port, one hopes. XBox may wind up with a larger online community for multiplay, it seems like consoles generally do for that sort of game. Given that this is Dark Souls, do you actually want more multiplay? Is there a difference in how often the online versions are subjected to hackers between the systems? I would probably wait for PC myself, but how is it being distributed? Is it through some godawful platform again that may or may not have made people I know acquire the last DS through questionable means?

As far as I know DS2 is going to have a dedicated PC port rather than the sloppy muck that was released for the first game. I truly have no idea, however, if the multiplayer is cross-platform.

I've been playing Age of Empires 2, OpenRA (Open Source Red Alert for the PC? Hell yes!), League of Legends, and Civ5. I've also given Papers, Please a shot and have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing. Three days in and all that I've noticed is that the entry is a bit more complicated than the last day and... that's it? Not too sure what the point is.

You might as well wait until the PC release to see how good/bad of a port it is. That being said, DS1 was a truly horrendous PC port, so console is the safer bet.

Giving Xenoblade Chronicles a second shot and I'm glad I did. The early gsme was boring as hell(namely the sidequests felt like an MMO) which turned me off the first time but sticking with it is definitely paying off. The voice acting is still kinda goofy in parts though imo("Man whadda buncha JOKAHS!").

My understanding is they're developing is alongside the console versions to avoid a DS1 repeat because yeah, that was truly one of the worst ports ever done.

Yeah, I'm looking at the multiplayer experience primarily (humiliating other humans is pretty much what I play games for these days). To that end, I would quite like to get either version as close to release as possible, because I don't want to get left behind by the "meta".

I played DSII on PS3 yesterday, and the graphics were noticeably bad... Admittedly, I had also been playing Xbone and PS4 games for most of the day, so had been spoilt by cutting edge graphics, but... ugh... it looked so bad compared to what I can get on PC/next gen!

The payoff in Papers Please is the story/humour/choices/different endings/etc. The game itself is weirdly addictive, but kind of feels like hard work. IMO it's vastly overrated now... It's a fun, surprising little game, but it's nowhere near deserving of the hype that it's got recently. I first played it back in October, and I was an early evangelist of its simple but addictive gameplay and it's cool storyline and humour. I wanted it to do well, because it's unconventional and well written, so I was happy at first to see the positive reviews it started receiving. But the critics and "community" have really taken it too far now, hailing it as some kind of must-play game. It's really not. It can't possibly live up to all this hype...

It does simulate with the annoying interface limitations and over-complexity rather accurately some of the more frustrating bits of the sort of occupation it is attempting to portray.

I have found the utter cathartic joy of Red Dead Redemption.

I have found the utter cathartic joy of Red Dead Redemption.

A fantastic game, that's for sure. I love disappearing into Tall Trees clad in furs and armed with a buffalo rifle. I turn off the music, leave my horse behind... and listen. Bears will usually drop with a single hit to the head, but that's easier said than done without auto-aim or dead-eye. They're sneaky, and tend to come in waves.

I also love hunting from horseback, either with a gun or a knife. Again, I avoid auto-aim or dead-eye because they make it too easy. It's an enjoyable challenge, taking the trouble to aim at a moving target while galloping past it, avoiding attacks from any direction, and constantly kicking to keep the horse moving. It's a joy to hunt wolves with a knife from horseback. You have to do a careful dance, getting within a foot or two to knife them without getting your horse bitten. And I enjoy a good game of liar's dice- the game motivated me to make some walnut dice cups on a lathe.

Although my friend much prefers storming a convent and massacring nuns with a shotgun.

I figured I should finish my playthrough of Papers Please. Oh, these people with expired documents saying they're busy. Just makes you want to shake your head.

I think somebody is conspiring against me. There were so many deasl on steam for games I was interested in but decided to buy 'maybe later'. I went on several small shoppong sprees and haven't even played most of them yet.
Yesterday I've started Mars: War Logs which is one of those games with bad professional reviews but mixed (leaning towards good) user reviews. I saw 'cyberpunk RPG' in the description and decided to give it a try. The technical side is a bit rough in terms of graphics and the voice acting can generously be described as sub-par, but it's supposed to have a good story. We'll see.
Combat reminds me a bit of the Witcher 2 and the three specialized skill trees are heavily 'inspired' by it. I have yet to form a strong opinion but it seems to be decent if you're into that.

I finally activated The Age of Decadence on Steam a few weeks ago, after being interested in its development for two years, and I still haven't even tried it yet. :(

Protip: Stay out of combat as much as possible. Seriously.

Yes. Invest in the ancient arts of dodging or not being there at all. :)
