One of the worst things I felt about playing oblivion was walking outside of the imperial city for the first time, finding iirc a bandit-filled fort I could walk into, and deciding: "No, I'm already too close to the carry limit, there is no reason to go inside"
I actually prefer games where I can't just dive into every nook and cranny. It makes the world feel bigger and more realistic if I have to pick my spots. Survival Mode in Fallout 4 created that feeling quite well, but unfortunately I'd already played through the game once and it doesn't have great replay value.

Just to be clear, that's for Skyrim? I'm intrigued. Shall have to look into it. I'm in favor of mods that just add a bit of lower-key stuff to the game without changing it too much.

Enhanced Economy is for Oblivion. I think that Trade & Commerce is the Skyrim equivalent.

That's a valid opinion, but I think you shold probably be enticed to check out the very first nook/cranny you come across

Just use a Weight mod, I felt I wasted way to much time sorting through inventory and managing weight limit and repeated travelings to loot the same dungeons. After installing a weight mod for unlimited weight to satisfy my OCD loot hording found the game much more enjoyable

I don't do mods :undecide:

also isn't there a thing that the game slows way down if you have too much inventory?

Skyrim was my first fantasy game, and at the time I thought magic was stupid and silly, so my first character focused purely on health, stamina, and mostly fighting skills. Ended up extremely powerful with perfect armor, hard-hitting, armor-piercing maces, a very powerful bow or crossbow with all the perks, and a shield charge that could send almost anyone flying. I almost never used magic.

Then I figured a Breton warrior build with some Alteration skill, Mara's Blessing, the Lord Stone, and enchanted and fully smithed armor and shield could resist 85% of all fire, ice, lightning, and physical damage and 50% of fall damage, so I got well on my way to making that. Bretons are great, and not just because they're based on, well, the Bretons.

And instead of horses or fast travel, I just get high stamina, enchanted items increasing the replenishment rate, and the Well Fitted perk, and I can indulge in the brutal sport of cross-country sprinting.

I never put points in stamina, only health and magic. Once you get enough magicka regen (for me adding Morokei to Archmage robes usually does the trick, and once I get enchanting to 100 I can make armor that gives lots of magicka regen) you can do all kinds of cool things. There is a perk that lets Restoration spells restore stamina as well as health so you can sprint and power attack basically forever.

I've most recently been doing heavy armor and two-handed with alteration, conjuration, restoration. I never really use shields, with one-handed I prefer to have my other hand use spells.

Well, if going into haunted tombs, bandit camps and abandoned castles wasn't enticing all by itself, I wouldn't be playing the game in the first place. Back when my friends and I played tabletop D&D, we called it "going on a deathwish."

I need a new game but I kinda lack motivation. Thinking about picking up Witcher 3 as it's on sale but not sure if I can get into an RPG right now.

How about Paradox's new space game, Stellaris? If you're at all interested in philosophy, puzzles or beautiful games, I'd also recommend The Talos Principle.

Been playing an EB2 campaign as the Romans. Man EB is some of the most fun I've ever had. EB mods are waaaaay better than the more recent Total War games, in my opinion anyway.

Paradox games are out seeing as I'm on the PS4 platform (until civ6 at least). Talos Principle looks really cool though. I used to like puzzles a lot but somewhat less so now and I haven't played one in a long time. I didn't even get around to play Portal 2.

I should probably try getting back into The Last of Us. Played around half or 1/3 in and got bored.

The Talos Principle is really very good. You should try it out at the very least.

How is the difficulty level? Is there a progressive hint system in place? I do like something that require some brain usage but at the same time I really hate getting stuck while feeling you've tried everything.

Have been playing CKII again, I have DLC that allows me to start in the 750s or something like that. Maybe 780s? Either way, I have been playing as the French.. or err I mean.. West Francia.. or whatever it is. My brother died so I inherited his kingdom and for the last couple generations have had a large blob under my command. Bavaria and Saxony are growing large and it's about 150 years into the game now. I haven't even had a chance to expand my kingdom at all, most of the time I'm putting down insurrections and fighting wars other people start.

My goal is to make it to 1440 and to export to EUIV and to play as.. well, hopefully Poland. Assuming it exists. Or whatever looks interesting on the map at the time, I suppose.

I've tried playing as Poland in the 750s (or whenever) and I can't ever convert my kingdom from animism to Christianity. My state is Christian but every single province is pagan. And each time I try to convert a province, there's uprisings, and it usually flips back. I also had a lot of issues making sure I only have 1 son, due to the stupid ancient Polish hereditary/heir/whatever laws. Not only Polish but you know what I mean.

So I figured playing as a French big shot would be easier, and it is a lot easier. We'll see how far I get. Right now I think I am on the great grandson of the original dude I started as. My aunt is the queen of the Byzantine Empire, but that doesn't really seem to help me.

My mom also declared war on me once. I should dig up that screenshot.

There's essentially no hint system, unless you like doing a bunch of Tangram puzzles to unlock a limited number of one-line hints, but the names of the puzzles themselves are often hints at what you need to do. The game is also very open-plan, so fumbling one puzzle means you can simply leave and go elsewhere.

APPROV'D

once you've done that you're all set for a VH/VH as Bosporos Kimmerioi

Final Fantasy 5 is a fun game to play

but I don't quite know how I'll get level 5 doom; the entire party is already level 14 and almost level 15

Just finished the second expansion and... well, this game is truly one-in-a-decade experience. Cannot go wrong with it!

unless you don't actually like it
Still can't get how you don't like the Witcher.

Anyhow, kicking it old school and failing miserably as the Western Roman Empire in Rome Total War: Barbarian Invasion. I finally got my financial house in something resembling order when the Ostrogoths and Huns show up in Noricum. Thankfully the Goths and Roxolani have already settled down and the Huns gave the Vandals a thrashing but I'm not looking forward to having to face down two hordes as nearly the same time.
My armies have taken a beating trying to take back Spain and large chunks of Gaul and by stretching my forces to the limit I can just about piece together two field forces for Italy. Those two field armies are pretty decent though as I've been collecting all of my reject generals in them for suicide charges if need be. There is a poetic justice in that as the dribbling, inbred rejects embark on a death-or-glory charge, rout the Ostrogothic cavalry, and then wheel back into the enemy's rear. Northern Gaul is barely holding on in the face of Frankish and Alemannic aggression but as long as I can hold Augusta Treverorum I should be fine. (Strangely, the Celts decided to launch a relatively successful invasion of Armoricum. I was not expecting that.)
