He doesn't like RPGs? Burn the heretic!

To be fair, I'm a fan of the more reusable LAW series myself. :p

So I've been positively addicited to GTA V, specifically GTA Online. It's so much fun, just being able to run around in a crime simulator and trying to make a name for yourself doing various jobs and tasks. I've settled into a role of essentially a mercenary, making cash by protecting people doing the CEO black market stuff. For a low level player, it pays extremely well, and helps me level up quickly too.

Plus I get to be a girl :3

Diablo 3 season 7 just came online last night. Also - Hearthstone regular monthly season.

I've heard things about W3 which might mean it avoids most of the things I find incredibly tedious and absurd about most RPGs, but I'm honestly not really willing to put the time in to find out. There are so many other games I would rather play.

I'm ok with RPGs in general but I mostly prefer BioWare games and F:NV. The Witcher games have a main character that I don't care for in a setting that I don't care about.

Been playing through the Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge campaign recently, almost finished with the latter's Soviet campaign and only the Allied campaign left.

Been wondering if there's an RTS out there that tries to minimize micromanagement with it's features. Stuff like automation of action loops, unit stances, target prioritization, and retreating.

Today, I was playing Choice of Alexandria, a digital Choose-Your-Own-Adventure game. It's really rather fun.

I dunno about your request there but RA2 and Yuri's Revenge were A+ games and I unironically adored Ray Wise as President Dugan

So you want to play an RTS that plays itself?

I think the closest game I know which matches your description is Urb's Mud and Blood 2. It's an RTS about managing a squad of American soldiers in WW2, and part of is that you can't control who they fire at without paying command points; you can only move them around and hope they prioritize the right dudes. It's a fun game, but it's very and intentionally newbie unfriendly; Urb loves making games that are "unfair brutality". It is free though, so no reason not to try it out at least.

There's also Mud and Blood Recon, a Vietnam spin off that actually has more objectives than just "survive". However, it is a lot more micromanagey due to the fact you have to patrol and physically fins the enemy and assets you're looking for. There's also 3 currently in development, which is like 2 except with, again, more to do than simply "survive". A barebones alpha video was just posted last month so it's nowhere near release though.

EDIT: Direct Link to MnB2

Correct on all counts.

I don't remember saying to remove all control from the player. Just to be able set rules of engagement, like in real life where units will try to defend themselves and not sit on their asses until I issue commands.

I do remember playing MnB 2. I did pretty okay to the point of being able to survive indefinitely if I did need to get off the computer. That was an old version though.

No, he wants an RTS that actually rewards good strategic and tactical thinking rather than who can click their mouse the fastest.

This guy gets it. Strategy, not APM.

Even in high-competitive RTSes like SC and WC APM can't actually cover up bad strategic play and awareness. The only thing APM does is expand the strategic options available to you. In fact in SC2, APM and micro mechanics only really become important at diamond level and above. You can breeze through the levels below that just by having good map awareness and straight up out-macroing your opponent.

There's a reason any SC2 streamer worth his salt will tell a new player to disregard speed and micro mechanics early on entirely in favor of developing macro and strategic awareness.

Still, it would be nice to have an RTS in which units act more like trained soldiers and less like tree-stumps with guns taped to them.
