What was your first impression of CFC-OT?

man those people can't tell what way the chick spins. Also, I can't seem to find my posts from the past (profile searches and OT searches are limiting to 300 results?).

my posts were bad though. 5 years and still going strong!

First thing I saw in OT was the "Ask a red" thread. I was extremely impressed by the knowledge of Cheezy, Traitorfish, and innonimatu. Traitorfish, in particular, I thought was an exceptional poster. Still do, actually.

No doubt. Traitorfish is over my head so often, I feel like suing him for my baldness. Bloody shoes destroying my hairline.

"So, this is the place where all the reports are coming from, isn't it?"

:D
My early CFC posts were all in the Civ forums. Quite awhile later, I ventured down here to see what was going on. This was my first reaction:

 ..... ..... ..... ..... :gripe:

Then I saw something that I just HAD to answer, and it's been like
e4673.gif
ever since. :)

"You people could turn a "Can you believe its not butter" thread into a full scale political debate"

This.

I forgot who Lade was after all these years.

The 'Ask a ...' threads are generally enlightening, and although I don't post too often in them, I lurk. It's one of the things that has kept me coming back to OT all these years.

Another impression from early on: there are a ton of posters that have TL/DR posts (I was and probably am still among them), but only Amadeus has TS/DR (too short/didn't read) posts. :) Seriously, sometimes I have no clue what he's talking about, and it seems like I should.

Well, of course! After all, it touches on a multitude of areas that people talk about all the time (except Fabio - haven't heard much about him lately... :hmm: ).

But as the character of Perchek says in Fiddler On the Roof: "Everything's political." (he said this to the girl he'd just asked to marry him - he said he wanted to ask her a political question, and she was surprised at his insistence that proposing marriage was a political question. She said 'yes' and then they shook hands on their engagement :mischief: )

Not sure when my first post was, probably from the Apolyton-CFC "merger", I think that's about when I registered for this place. I only heard about this place from there. It seemed more nerdy than that place, but I have come to realize later that it's a good thing. :) Sometimes lack of decent moderation can be a bad thing. Although I still feel like they are too strict over here (sometimes I inadvertently troll, and it's a bad habit I'm trying to get out of).

Why the underworld would I want to be here???

When I first came to CFC, I was a young-earth creationist and a staunch republican, so I thought of it as a wretched hive of scum and villainy. I only came in here once in a while...specifically, after Bush was reelected, I came in to enjoy the outrage. I didn't anticipate learning to loath the man myself.

I think he did not frequent OT and is made a mod outside OT. There are mods outside of OT :p.

Or, he didn't come to OT until after he was a moderator.

This for sure.

Okay, I've been in OT before, but just for some posts.
Reaction at that time was probably "Oh, home of the trolls, don't make them angry. But this topic there might be interesting."

The reaction now is more "Oh, home of the trolls, but I don't have anything to do in the Civ areas but don't want to turn of the computer...and that topic there might be interesting". So not many changes.

"Troll" is not directed at anyone, it's rather meant as a general view on every OT forum, not only at CFC.

I guess I'm used to too many things to get again through the first 3 stages :D.
(have visited worse sites before, that's what I mean).

No RL :D?
(probably the answer to every post here)

(probably the answer to every post here)

hehe, I actually have quite an extensive RL (usualy) ;)

The current reason is that I quite enjoy reading the threads.:coffee: (I read more threads than that I comment in:scan:) I like hearing/reading other peoples opinions on things to, better, form my own.
And there are a lot of threads that are just very amusing to read :eekdance:

The first time I came here the top thread was a thread about artificial boobs. There was also a babe thread and several other sex-themed threads. I was young then and was scared away from OT for at least a year. I finally checked it out again and found that some of the threads were actually pretty interesting.

They are actually liberal moles , planted to provide oh so easy fodder

No joke, I thought that you actually were an alt account by a left wing poster.

I joined 8 years ago, when I was 15 or so. I was very impressed with the level of discussion and wit. It has steadily fallen from 2007 and on. Mostly due to expansion/too many posters and some extraordinarily high quality posters that made everyone post better leaving.

My first impression of CFC was that you were all a bunch of nay-sayers who hated science, progress, and sex, and who made a secret deal with the International Astronomer's Union to demote Pluto, as well as not believing Pluto could be terraformed.

When I first came here I thought the people here were smart, but talk about things like politics too much. That was back when I used to think I was smart (for some reason at school I was known as the kid who knew everything about history or science).

I still think everyone here is highly intelligent, but now I know that I'm a idiot that doesn't know anything.
