What would you do if you were the last person on earth?

@Silurian
In continental Europe bottled water is the usual source of water. We don't do tap. If you live in a city of 25k people and there are 10 bottles per person, you already have 250k bottles of water. Let's assume one such bottles contains 1l and that you consume 2.5 liter per day, the bottled water supply of a 25k city would last you 250/2.5days = 100k days = 100.000days/365days = about 274 years. Water shouldn't be a major concern. Conserves can still be eatable after 100 years (though of course not without quality deficiencies and not in every case). So again, food shouldn't be a problem. Of course, it might be nice to eat something fresh for a change.
@Heretic_Cata :lol:
From masturbation to necrophilia...so, what's up next for this thread?
Did you catch my bestiality reference?

I'd take a roadtrip south on a good bike. See the nature, probably wonder what happened and what's up ahead and try to stay alive for a while longer.

Did you catch my bestiality reference?

That was in the middle, in terms of thread position and heinousness.

Well the link below gives the German bottled water consumption in 2010 as 134 Litres per person per year.

http://www.worldwater.org/datav7/data_table_19_per_capita_bottled_water_by_country.pdf

The shops and individuals do not store large amounts of bottled water.

Lets say there are two weeks supply. In shops 1 week and homes 1 week.
(how many weeks supply do you have) (There will be more in bottling plants and distributers warehouses)

That gives 5 L per person or 125000L in town of 25K

Now I don’t Know about you but I need more than 2.5 L of water a day.

As well as the 2.5 L to drink what about washing and food preparation.

30 L a day is used in West Africa so if you use that.

125000/30 = 4167days or /365 days = 11.4 years if you find it all.

Yes some canned food will be edible after 100 years but not much. Most food is not stored in optimum conditions. What do you think will happen when rain starts coming through the roof of the supermarket because no one cleared the leaves out of the gutters. Most will not last much more than ten years so you will be on a restricted diet. Then you could start running into problems like scurvy.

Washing could be done with rain water. Washing cloths? Pfff. If you get tired of your cloths, just get new ones. I would think 2.5 liter to drink are quit a lot for one person, but fine let's say 3 liter and fine, let's assume our conservative number of 5 liter per person.
And with food preparations let's assume a water consumption of 4 liter a day.
125000/4 = 31250 --> 31250/365 = 85.6 years. And now keep in mind that 25k is a quit small city and you could move on to a bigger one.
As to conserves. Sure, a lot may go to waist. But - you got a whole civilized world full of conserves, stored under all kind of conditions. Now add uncooked pasta and different instant-dishes.
Seriously, I am 100% certain that the matter wouldn't be to have enough to drink and eat, but just under what conditions, in what variety, how exactly. Of course, you will have to do something and can't just sit on your butt playing civilization ;)

Any given supermarket or warehouse would likely have a roof that's sound for 20-30 years with no maintenance. At least the way they're built around here. So as long as you kept an eye on things the canned food ought to be good for your lifetime. And you can freeze a lot if you keep the freezers running. Do that for 4-5 big supermarkets and maybe a warehouse and you might not even need to supplement your diet. Depending on where you live, enough water for washing and cooking shouldn't be an issue. No one is competing with you for it. raiding all the supermarkets within range will produce a lifetime's worth of bottled water. But that's the US suburbs.

I would go to the local gunstore and loot it for all the guns and ammo. Then, I would go to the Albany International Airport, hijack a plane, and fly to China. From there, I would hunt Pandas till the day I die as Darwin's Will.

Either that, or I would perserve humanity's vast knowledge base. Not sure which is more important. :p

1) Mastur...err, get some weapons which don't require ammunition (including a knife), take them to somewhere for storage, a sharp ax as well as some lighters and matches for fire.

2) Find an atlas, and carefully study a map of South America.

3) Get some books which explain what the controls on a plane do.

4) Get a lot of canned food, as well as some porn and a lot of reading material (including books which help to tell me the symptoms and treatments of several diseases - And medical equipment, for that matter).

5) Take all of this stuff to an airport, and find the largest plane there which looks like it was about to take off (so that there is a lot of spare fuel).

6) Put all the stuff on the plane.

7) Try to fly to somewhere near the Ucayali River, although going closer to the source than the mouth would be preferable.

8) Hope the river water is safe to drink.

9) Try to land the plane without killing myself or destroying my items.

10) Remove items from the plane. The weapons will be for hunting, the location near the river will be for water, the porn and books due to boredom, the ax will be for chopping trees down, while fire will be made by the lighters and matches.

11) ???

12) PROFIT!!!

Probably just drive around in loads of different cars and build my own castle :D would be bloody awesome though being the last guy on earth

Living In the Valleys gyda sheep ;)

Either you don't believe in life after death or you somehow intend to go on living forever.

hah i see what you mean now.
i thought you meant i wouldn't be alone whilst being alive and alone :P

Head south until you find a tropical fruit plantation. Problem solved.

With limited power options, and no wild hunter-gatherer skills, you'll want to move South anyways.

EDIT: And I'd agree that anything stored in thing plastic bags sealed in thin cardboard would probably be liable to mold, consider....the MRE!

I'm surprised so many people are so content to live a life alone. I'd be scared crapless (the other word they won't let me use). It's funny because I am a loner, but I don't want to be completely alone. I once went primitive camping, and I was by myself miles from anyone. It's kind of scary. Anything could happen to you, and no one could help you out. There's a reason why humans banded together. It was for their own safety.
