When did feminism go completely crazy?

You know, the more this discussion goes on the more I truly believe we should give feminism as a subject the Tom Petty treatment. Which is to say, no is allowed to either bash it or support it.

Just don't bring it up. Both sides of the feminism date have really and truly proven they can't handle the maturity to discuss this at a sensible level. There are a few individuals on both sides that have been reasonable- but most of it is just mudslinging.

It detracts from CFC OT quality which otherwise would seem more reasonable.

Aren't most threads about feminism in OT start an original post that declaims feminism?

It seems odd for someone who doesn't like feminism to say we shouldn't talk about it when we generally start from a position of someone who doesn't like it.

At 4 am, I am saying bye and pointing her to the elevator.

If you aren't in line for brunch at 4 am then you ain't getting in before all the Eggs Benedict are gone.

I'd say feminism went crazy when they started thinking things like "manspreading" were serious issues affecting women.

Oh go stuff it. Manspreading isn't a feminist issue; it doesn't merely affect women. it isn't just a sexist issue because manspreading on public transit affects all parties regardless of their sexes.

The importance of manspreading is grossly overblown not because it is a sex based issue, but because people love, love, love to complain about their commutes.

You're right and you don't see me speaking out against the feminists who are fighting those issues do you? No, I speak out against the extremists in the movement that seem to think issues like "manspreading" warrant just as much attention as rape, domestic violence, underrepresentation, slut shaming, etc.

No need to move the goal posts dude, just a few posts ago you didn't make any sort of distinction between the "extremists" and moderate feminists.

Whatever it is, they picked a really stupid name for it. Stupid enough it probably be mocked and the people super into calling it that should be mocked.

Not in this thread sure, but search my posting history and you will find past posts where I do make it well known that I do make a distinction between the extremists and moderates. I also think the extremists are making an effort to hijack the movement and the moderates aren't doing nearly enough to combat their growing influence.

So if you don't take the time to understand my viewpoints on the matter, that's your own intellectual laziness; and your intellectual laziness doesn't require me to explain my entire viewpoint on a given issue every time I post about that issue. You may think it's crazy to do so, but actually research the posting history of those I respond to so I can gain a better understanding of their viewpoints on the matter being discussed.

My intellectual laziness? You literally said "The [feminist] movement" you made no attempts to clarify that you actually meant "extremists" in that post and only did so after people called you out on it and even i did research your "view points" it was still an incredibly ignorant thing to say. Don't blame me for your poor choice of words/inability to express how your really feel about extremist feminism.

If we're going to do post histories and general attitudes, how about we start with the guy who started a thread about whether to withhold his wife's pocket money if she hadn't done her chores?

I literally couldn't bring enough popcorn to this thread if I tried.

It wasn't poor wording, I said exactly what I meant to say. I feel the extremists in the movement are hijacking the movement and the moderates aren't doing anything to stop them and are allowing the extremists to define the movement. You would know this if you did some research on my viewpoints on feminism.

And what does that have to do with feminism? Is it because my wife is a woman? So if I were married to another man and were doing the exact same thing in the otherwise exact same situation (which I would) would it still have anything to do with my views on feminism?

This thread is actually about ethics in feminist journalism.

This thread started with a diatribe on Gamergate, which for all means and purposes was about something called "gaming journalism." I cannot fathom why we have a thread created by this obvious DL, especially if we are going to have statements as the thread title instead of a question. You people wonder why every girl that has been driven away from here or still is here is mortified beyond belief.

So your way to defeat them is rather than disenfranchising and mocking the extremists, you decide to disenfranchise and mock the entire movement, majority being moderates.

Well congrats i guess on the flawless logic.

This thread started with a diatribe on Gamergate,

Lets be honest. There was no way a gaming site was going to have a discussion on feminism that doesn't spawn from Gamergate and how those wacky crazy feminists are ruining the boy's club.

Besides, there aren't any other.. relevant outbursts of conflicts between feminists and MRAs recently that hoarded as much attention as the Gamergate. The other ones are fiascos, really.

I don't want to defeat anyone, I am merely expressing my views on the matter. As a general rule, I actually try to avoid social movements in general because I, frankly, don't care about the vast majority of them because they neither have a direct positive or negative impact on my interests.
