Where is your grammar?

My maternal grammar is dead and my paternal grammar is in Edmonton.

Oh ... it's could HAVE! Not could OF.

And irregardless is not a fricken word
I was thinking along those lins, but I decided to a different pun. :D

BTW, I am in your similar situation with my grammars, but obviously different city.

In US High School system:p. I blame institutional education!

Unluckily, you are absolutely correct. I know a teacher, and she knows that many Fifth-graders cannot read in her New York (State) district. The teachers have them "read" by putting a Book-On-CD into a CD player, and have the children listen.

Is that teaching? No. Will that help them learn grammar? No.

It's a pity that my tax dollars are put towards the education of idiots.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean it that way.

I meant it more towards people who speak English as a first language. These are the sorts of people who should know better than be grammatically incorrect.

I mean no offense to non-native English speakers.
Yes, I was pretty sure of that.

My answer was a bit tongue-in-cheekish. :D

I just explained the point of view of non-native english speaker that reads forum almost daily. Personally I would put more emphasizes that people wouldn't go into too personal issues while debating and would try to make their point show more clearly. In many issues I have noticed people using such language even though grammatically correct that I'm not sure where they are (going at?) ;) . There's lot of pointless debating about issues that people almost agree on but just draw conclusions that other one is against them. That irritates me.

Well to say I was little suprised to see this is understatement. I seen few (thank god) cases where only students insight into work was watching movie adaptation. Though many thanks to my Enlish 12 and Composition teachers for making us read:goodjob:.

At least, like, ya know, like, we dont like all post like this, like ya know?
*shudders at the thought*

Normally i want to type things quickly, and i'm not a great touvh typer, and typically forget to use the shift key. And mek annoying spelling mistakes.
I did have an avatar a while back which said "Tyos uined my life", since i was constantly making annoying typos.

As a dyslexic and mostly deaf person who was taught with phonics I have a horrible time with english. Since it was so hard in school I didn't bother to learn proper grammer. But my skills are passible. And I spend as much time proofinf as I do writing and stuff still gets all fubared.

No offense taken.

I find this forum not too bad grammar-wise. I hate those forums (fora?) where people write using numbers and shortcuts like "I've 2 go 2 yr hous str8 away'

As a non-native I also would like to see correct grammar, so mine doesn't get worse by reading these forums (fora).

As an example, when classical hero says: "I beat you on that" Shouldn't it be "I've beaten" or 'I beaten you on that?' or are the two forms allowed? I studied the 'beaten' form mainly, but it seems that nobody uses it.

EDIT: And I don't mind if somebody corrects my grammar, as long as they provide a valid correction.

Although writing in abbreviation, without checking for spelling and punctuation, may be easier to write, it is much harder to read. Give me a well-written paragraph any day. Although in my case I would do it anyways because I am weird like that. I even capitalize and give punctuation to cell phone text messages, even though that takes twice as long.

It's not ment to be mean, people simply make mistakes or are hassled, or are tired. So if you'll excuse my grammer, I'll excuse yours.

There are some differences. Like between "I h8 dem Zulus, but y?" and "I hate the Zulus, but wy?"

Wut I rlly h8 is wen ppl write w/ numbers nd spel liek this cuz they think 1t m4k3z them 2 l00k kewl 2 teh жtreme!!11111 or something.

Seriously, whenever I see that kind of stuff, it makes me think the people who wrote the post are idiots that don't even deserve a computer or Internet access.

Excuse me for sounding snooty, but it irritates me to no end when I look at a thread, or a sentence, and I find that someone, who is an otherwise intelligent person, types paragraphs that are filled with grammatical errors, spelling typos, and/or uncapitalized letters.

Why can't people learn to make fully punctuated, and grammatically correct sentences? This applies to all age groups, inside and out of the CFC. I see improper grammar in a great deal of places, place where spelling and grammar are key to the interpretation of the paragraph. Even books for God's sake!

What do you think? What can we do to stop this menace from consuming us all? Or do you feel that improper spelling and grammar is not rampant? I would like your honest opinions.

How important is this to you? ;)

Excuse me for sounding snooty, but it irritates me to no end
Do you really mean "to no end"?
This implies there is no purpose to your irritation.
Did you instead mean to say "no end".
This would indicate your irritation is limitless.
Which is it?

Why can't people learn to make fully punctuated, and grammatically correct sentences?
If you want the "and", you should omit the comma.
"Why can't people learn to make fully punctuated and grammatically correct sentences?"
or, possibly,
"Why can't people learn to make fully punctuated, grammatically correct, sentences?"

I see improper grammar in a great deal of places, place where spelling and grammar are key to the interpretation of the paragraph.
As the "place" in the sub-clause does not match the original "places", should we take this as an imperative?

Even books for God's sake!
A sentence without a verb is a sorry thing.

Or do you feel that improper spelling and grammar is not rampant?
I assume you mean "are" not rampant.

I would like your honest opinions.
You might possibly value my opinions.
I doubt you would like them.
I do not think you sound at all snooty.

;)

What bathsheba, said. Everyone makes, grammar and punctuation errors in their posts, it, just doesn't matter, because we ain't writin' oot, queen of Enger, land. ;)

As long as the message is inteilligable, and not hard to read.. i dont care.

gratuitus use of "Z" in works annoys me cuz iz far to sapien.

Most of the time, I don't type a period at the end of my last sentence because I'm too lazy, but sometimes I miss a key or type the wrong key. I change it when I catch it, but sometimes I don't.

(People type quickly because they are lazy.)

I'm not a native english speaker.. in fact, english is my third language.

I've made a point to learn english well, to the point that grammatical/spelling mistakes annoy the hell out of me.

So it gets on my nerves, but only because I've been trained to spot mistakes and avoid them. It's like somebody driving a sharp stick in my eye. I don't do it on purpose but if I see a baad mistake my brain just hurts.
