Don't know much about Brazil, but I wouldn't mind seeing them in the game. Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio and Gisele of course have absolutely NOTHING to do with that sentiment;););)

Question: Exactly what did the Netherlands DO for history, except get pounded from both sides during WWII?

They had a big trading empire and were the first nation state and/or capitalist state. Or that's what people say anyway.

They did have a good Southeast Asian empire for a long time. They also had an extremely stong navy! They founded New York. They had the number 1 economy in the world for a long time back in the 17th century. Their golden age was based on religious tolerance and powerful innovations, which would influence the world for a long time.

Get a history book.
They were huge traders, and Calvinists... had colonies all over the place... Africa, SE Asia, Caribbean... W&M took over the crown of England...
What an awful question...

The more the merrier I say. However, "overlapping" ones should be avoided. Such as Rome and Holy Rome. Same goes for America, sort of. Holy Rome and America should be in the game as they have a purpose on scenarios. But during a normal ancient start, I would like to not have America included. So a switch that says "Only choose between random ancient civs" would be enough for me.

Maybe the whole system could change a little so that "ancient" civs had UUs and UBs within a certain time window. "Medeval" and "modern" civs could have UUs and UBs within other time windows. Upon starting the (custom) game, you select what era the random civs should be from.

Pressed for time, so I didn't bother to read through all pages. Sorry if this was mentioned already.

Then Civs like the French and English should be removed as well since they're not Ancient Civs.

I agree with the previous poster who replied to you, and I would like to ask how Rome and Holy Roman Empire overlap?

@AlphaShard - note, poster said America should not be included... so maybe the omission of England and France would also be acceptable in his mind... Deleting any of those three would drop my interest in this game about 99%.

I would like to play against at least 30 civs or more in a game. My pipe dream is to have more than that number range. I don't think we should erase any Civs that was made after Civ IV (and the expansion packs) and its predecessor Civ III.

But yeah, the Holy Roman Empire is the one I am having problem with. If allowing that, then why not Prussia or the Austro-Hungarian Empire too?

Civs that should be removed:
Holy Rome- for obvious reasons already mentioned by many other people. It is obvious Firaxis made this civ only because they wanted Charlemagne in the game. Also they wanted cities like Salzburg, Luxembourg, Florence, Brussels and Prague to be included.
Native America- should be separated into tribes like Iroquois and Sioux.
Vikings- should be split to Danes and Swedes.
Sumer- I know, they are the first civ in history and all that... But why do we need them??? I'd rather have Assyria instead!

Just got to thinking how about we redo the vikings, call it Scandinavia and have its leaders be Ragnar and Gustavus Adolphous that way the history of that region is more represented. And I also wouldn't mind seeing the Mayans or Byzantines get cut.

Not really... they spoke Greek, and were founded by Rome... they were also the 1st Christian Nation in History, and set the stage for the Christian heritage of Europe, which has had a pretty large impact on the world. They existed for longer than the Roman Empire and any combination of Greek Empires combined. The fork? First brought to Venice (the West) by a Byzantine Princess. Codified Roman law, hitherto a mess. Their impact on art throughout Europe. They are responsible for the conversion of E. Europe and Russia to Christianity, which they still practice today...
I could go on and on, but the point is, its not really a realistic statement to say Byzantine is redundant... given their impact to this day. Definitely a lot more impact on our current world than many, many of the other civs, in particular, the Mayans.

Answering the question of Weik:

(Joking)
Probable the Scandinavian! They don't like Portugal! (except Denmark)
And me personal favourite: Spain!!!

Now serious:
HRE and Byzantium.
Byzantium is Roman Empire of the East.
HRE, I never understund why them? The Austrian-Hungrian Empire should be it.

But I agree with must of the fanatics: more civ's, more fun!

About the Native American's issus: don't change the name: it can increase more native civ's to add on.

Byzantium is Roman Empire of the East.

Did you even read what Kochman said right above you? Though I agree with you on replacing the HRE with Austria.

Back on topic, though, I think that Native America should be replaced with various tribes (like everyone else apparently ), and of course they should add other important civs like Israel, Australia, Poland, and maybe split the Arabs into Mamluks and Abbassids or something. If I were Sid Meier, I would definitely take a cue from the many mods on this site like RevDCM, Ethnic Citystyles, and BUG to name a few. I don't know if I can go back to just a normal game after playing all the great modpacks here. :crazyeye:
