Which television shows are you watching? Part III

The Mandalorian finale was unbelievably good. What a great show. Can't really say more than that. Well done Disney.

I don't know why people are digging on the Witcher. I think it sucks. The timelines thing is confusing as hell and there is so much lore and backstory that is completely missing, and I do not understand the tone of the story telling at all. At times it seems very serious and then you get the bard singing almost modern jazz music and people telling campy jokes. It makes no sens, ruins the vibe of the show to me. Cavill is doing an amazing job though.

Ok some examples of what I mean, the Witcher downs potions and his eyes turn all black but they never explain ANY OF IT. The potion brewing in such a huge part of the games but there's no explanation given in the show so you just assume it's some kind of magic stuff. Same with his jedi like powers from his hand. They don't explain how it's magic and how he uses it compared to a mage.

Then this hedgehog looking guy shows up talking about law of surprise. And then never actually tell you what law of surprise is. You just have to kind of figure it out.

Magic in general is a little too prevalent without really understanding the rules about it. Does it come from flowers or spells or just natural aptitude? It's not explained. The universe seems to be made up as it goes along. Like how did Yennifer transform? Some dude just did it to her cus duh magic!

Then these nifilheim dudes are trying to kill everyone. Why? Cus their one prince got insulted at a party? There's just not nearly enough story development, and despite that I actually find the show dragging. You'd think it'd be fast paced since there's not much story building but nope, it's slow and kind of dull to me at least.

Still I will finish the season, I've watched about five episodes. But it doesn't even come close to game of thrones level.

Lost in Space is so full of gaping plot holes that it is crazy.

Like there were none in the original series.
ANY comparison to the original has to favor the new series. Just the acting alone should be enough.

Who Is America? is excellent. It's not as ridiculously funny as da ali g show was, but it really takes chances. I especially enjoyed watching Dr. Nira Cain-N'Degeocello give birth.

My wife saw that we have Downton Abbey in Amazon Prime, started watching on Monday.
I'm totally hooked on it

I've finished watching the new eight-part German-Italian adaptation of The Name of the Rose. Suitably gripping, though of course I already knew the details of the climax.

I repeat myself but it's kind of crazy just how completely logic goes out the window whenever Dr. Smith is on screen in Lost In Space. I like her character and I think the actress does a good job but she is a wrecking ball of plot holes and its kind of crazy that they can't go two scenes without wildly contradicting the rest of the plot.

All valid criticisms. It indeed feels a bit like the producers were expecting every viewer to be familiar with the universe already.
Although, in their defense, I believe they at least did explain what the Law of Surprise was

Been rewatching the old '79 Buck Rogers series on MeTV. Cheezy as heck, but brought back so many memories of watching it as child with my father.

I'm about two thirds through The Golden Compass and I'm impressed with how closely His Dark Materials followed the novel even if the casting seems to have diverged a bit from the book descriptions. It also made me realize what a bastardization the movie version was.

So happy with the conclusion of The Mandalorian. This is how SW should be done. It's going to be a long wait for Season 2 to premiere in the fall especially with the big reveal in Chapter 8. Thankfully, season 7 of The Clone Wars will be back on February 17th! Another good reason for people not to exit Disney+ just yet. I've even heard a season 8 may happen.

Also, a few returning shows I've been looking forward to - Kim's Convenience season 4 premieres this week on the 7th, The Magicians season 5 premieres next week on the 15th, Project Blue Book season 2 premieres in two weeks on January 21, and some weird ST show called Picard on the 23rd.

I have both Buck Rogers series on DVD. Some of the episodes are really memorable, particularly the space disco episode with Jerry Orbach.

Looks like Chernobyl won "Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television" & Stellan Skarsgård won "Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television" for his role in Chernobyl at the Golden Globes.

I'm busy watching the first series of the new BBC adaptation of His Dark Materials, which covers the action of the first book, Northern Lights. It's been pretty faithful to the book, with the understandable addition of non-Lyra scenes to account for starring a teenage actress.

Over the past couple of days, I started Jessica Jones S2, iZombie S3, and Avatar:TLA S3 (and Luther S4 with wifey).

JJ is shaping up to be an interesting follow-on from S1 (her office is showing Mal's repairs done in the last episode of Defenders, but events of that series have not [yet] been referenced). Though I'm not sure I like the new(?) internal monologue (don't remember S1 doing that?): yeah, she's a PI, but that doesn't mean she suddenly(?) has to go all Philip Marlowe on us, shurely...?

'Yesterday's' iZombie episode with Liv + Major eating the father + daughter-brains, respectively, was hilarious — right up until...
Spoiler ...the revelation of the motive for their murder :
They were planning to report the statutory rape of the daughter's friend (by her stepfather) to the police.
... which I found a little jarring. Nice to see Clive get some more character development, though — even if it was kind of sad.

With Avatar S2 and S3 feeling like they contain more multi-ep arcs compared to S1, I have been/will be running through them a lot quicker: 3 eps = ~1 hour, so it's real easy to just click 'next episode' instead of going to bed like I ought to...

I watched Gatiss & Moffat's Dracula series over the weekend. The first two episodes are great fun. Claes Bang and Dolly Wells were both awesome, and I liked the departures from the original, although I know some folks are put off by that sort of thing. And then the third episode was... mystifying. The conclusion hardly seemed to follow what had come before. I'd still like to see the 3rd episode of the show I'd been watching. I bet it would've been fun. Oh, well. Nobody bats 1.000, I guess.

Yeah Cheezy, but fondly remember watching it with my brothers. But then we loved the old Flash Gordon's too.

Erin Grey was one of my early crushes. I haven't watched it since I was a kid. I sort of want to see how it holds up, but part of me doesn't want to spoil the memories.

They deserve a lot of accolades.

Did anyone see that Ricky Gervais roasted Hollywood as a whole last night?
