Since the "Pros" for each state listed in the OP appear to be heavily biased in favor of North Dakota, my contrary nature forced me to vote for Mississippi.

In reality, though, I'm a lifetime citizen of the State of Confusion (with occasional vacations to the State of Denial), and proud of it! :crazyeye:

North Dakota.

By the way, I'm fairly certain Washington D.C. is #1 in terms of areas in the continental U.S. so far as low literacy rates go.

I couldn't take Mississippi. I found Ohio too humid and hot.

Based on that list i say North Dakota

North Dakota - I've generally not had good luck living in southern states, Hawaii excepted.

Mississippi, I guess. If I want cold, I'll just stay where I am...

North Dakota's cold... but I can't choose Mississippi. Hurricanes, southern food, and a culture that is probably fairly different from mine means I would choose North Dakota.

So is there some other difference apart from climate?
Wiki says ND has the highest percentage of church going population in the US.
And I thought Mississippi was heart of bible belt.

Not many cities on ND - Fargo maybe?

ah, don't extrapolate from the government to all the people living there!

Tough call. I mean, given the choice, those are probably the last two states I would ever choose (which I guess is why they are the choices.) I picked MS but it would depend on circumstances. I'm guessing the girls are better-looking in MS, but then they are from MS so that balances it out.

North Dakota definately. I could hunt prairie dogs and other game not found here in Maryland. Also, the population is smaller there.

Mississippi is too hot and muggy in the summer and hurricaines too frequent (sorry, I wouldn't want to be begging the govt. for money and worrying about rebuilding a house).

Nicer scenery? There's nothing there! Still, I went with North Dakota, primarily because I prefer cold to heat and humidity.

Forgive me if I'm mistaken, but isn't it a comparison of mountain ranges vs. swamplands? Give me mountains any day.

On the contrary, the federal employees (being literate, usually) may actually be raising the literacy rate.

Which is really, really, really scary.

No, the mountains start one state over. ND is pretty flat - see the movie "Fargo". It is the northern limit of the Great Plains in the US. Mississippissittikki has a little bit more variety in its scenery, I think.

Wow that's really tough. I think I'll settle for Mississipi, the climate looks nicer, and it appears there's more people in it that North Dakota.
But I would have to be forced to move there :)

North Dokata, it might be a hell-hole but at least it's next to Minnnesota, which is the greatest state in the union.

Greatest by the standard of "Number of lakes"?

Because I can't think of any other standards that would justify the title...
