Oh lordy, Masada has backed me up yet again what will the democrats ever do?
Not care, like always, because it's never been
Democrats you've been arguing with. You might know that if you'd paid attention instead of just dismissing everyone who supported Obama as a partisan hack.
Personally I'm looking forward to how our trend toward energy independence will unshackle us from the Middle East (Carter's declaration of it as an area of "strategic interest" was motivated purely by Cold War politics and oil) and as we disentangle ourselves, someone else will step into the ensuing power vacuum--someone who needs energy very badly. In other words, China. All of our headaches will become theirs, and as they bleed the region for oil just as we did to sustain their industrialization, they will pollute their country still further until it suffers an environmental meltdown, at which point that good old Mandate of Heaven will kick in again despite all the Party's attempts to smash it away.
Meanwhile, we can cooperate with the Europeans on the issue to break the Russian stranglehold on natural gas. If China (demand) and Russia (supply) want to continue being hardliners the only option will be to band together further at which point the SCO will become co-dependent, or to play ball with Western tech. With this totalitarian crap finally out of the way, we can get on with doing something useful, like colonizing space.
Rebuilding America functions as the first shots in what is likely to be the final major ideological conflict (hot, cold, or unacknowledged) between powers on this planet. That Obama sold it to everyone as rainbows and sunshine is well and good, but it contains a keener blade than anything as stupid as "drill, baby, drill."
Pax Americana is the key to a future for the human race that is not horribly dystopian--and that's why
I supported Obama. All McCain wanted to do was run things down until they broke, not fix them; among all his other gaffes.
