While We Wait: Writer's Block & Other Lame Excuses

It depends. EU is more about expansion and conquering stuff, CK is more about dynastic management. I prefer CK2 over EU3.

I suppose CK2 lies somewhere in between Victoria and EU3 on the complexity scale. But definitely closer to EU3.

I didn't have much trouble figuring out the gist of it, though some individual issues have been giving me trouble. (Also, it still seems silly that there are no sea battles.)

So EU3 is expansion and conquest oriented and CK2 more about family relations?

Deciding to start anew on a project I worked on back around the time I joined Civfanatics. I remember spending a summer poring over maps, compiling city lists, and trying to decide what traits each province and territory would have. Anyway, I'll see if I can knock this off in an afternoon.

'Civilizations'
Yukon: Industrious Commercial
NWT: Industrious Expansionist
Nunavut: Seafaring Expansionist
BC: Scientific Agricultural
Alberta: Militaristic Commercial
Saskatchewan: Agricultural Scientific
Manitoba: Militaristic Agricultural
Ontario: Scientific Militaristic
Quebec: Religious Expansionist
New Brunswick: Seafaring Industrious
Nova Scotia: Seafaring Commercial
Prince Edward Island: Religious Agricultural
Newfoundland and Labrador: Seafaring Religious

They still haven't put republics in, either. Which is a bit silly, IMO, because if they're willing to turn the likes of the Byzantine Empire into a French-style "feudal" state, it's really not much worse, historically speaking, to put in a similar family-relations system for the Italian merchant republics.

Well Gem Hound, I think that Agricultural/Scientific can be a really strong combination, especially in a prairie region with lots of rivers, so hopefully Saskatchewan will be able to hold its own against those warmongering Manitobans and Albertans. ;)

The map now contains topography, plains, tundra and starting locations. I've yet to add forests (I hear Canada has some of those) and marshland. Jungle and Desert will be unnecessary, although I considered making the Okanagan valley a desert and bits of the northern rainforest of British Columbia and Point Pelee into Jungle.

This. But I still enjoy CK2, especially the ASOIAF mod. The Muslim mechanics for title revocation and succession might actually go well with the ERE, but I haven't looked too much into it.

Also, Iggy, are you doing UUs for the different provinces?

I'm considering UUs, but I've only thought of a few. I was considering giving Yukon 'Prospectors' (Workers which build mines more quickly than normal), Mounties to Manitoba (Speedboosted Cavalry) and perhaps Berserkers to Newfoundland because of Vinland or something (although a 1600s-era ship might be more appropriate). At any rate, UUs aren't critical for this little scenario as of yet.

Does anyone know how to make people start with cities and units in certain locations in Civ 3 Scenarios?

Floodplains, Forests and Marshes placed. I've added a bunch of dots of grassland into the tundra to make things very slightly less horrendous for anyone playing as Nunavut. Now for resource placement.

Yeah, I was figuring it should be either Saskatchewan or Manitoba. Main problem is that I'm having trouble thinking up units for every Province/Territory.

Have it like this: Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta, and the Northwest Territories all get mounties, Saskatchewan at a slightly cheaper production cost.

Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and PEI should have naval UU's.

Ontario and Quebec would get stronger than normal infantry, name them whatever you want, same with BC. I personally can't think of each province getting an individual one.

The major powers rarely fight in the end. They just sit around and colonize things.
And colonization is soooo damn boring.

I might just go UU-free, or go for a Rhyes-style 'Civilization Bonus'.
That's a good idea, and how about instead of creating UU's, build new units for the scenario that every nation gets.

Driving through the middle of nowhere, Dobruja, I found:
- One of the few decent roads in Romania, surprisingly.
- Miles upon miles of abandoned agricultural infrastructure.
- An ancient, unkempt, Roman ruin that looked better than most modern Romanian towns. According to the myriad of signs around, the EU contributed 4 million euros to get shi* unfuc*ed there, but there was no sign of where that 4 million euros might've gone.
- The so-called birth of Christian Romania: a tiny exposed cave that a handful of Greeks are said to have huddled in some two thousand years ago.
