While We Wait: Writer's Block & Other Lame Excuses

I think it's a good enough idea that would cause no (foreseeable) harm by opening it up. All we would need is a good first post explaining just what the thread is about!

Sounds like it could be good! Of course, sometimes people might get disheartened by feedback on an unreleased update, so it might not be for everyone.

Would it be bad to have orders also subject to potential review? Would this be unfair perhaps? What I'm worried on with this is that friends would help each other, while others would be left in the dark.

We already have 'show me your orders'.

That's true, but the difference is that is past orders for everyone to see, rather than the orders you are going to submit that you are only showing a couple of people.

As far as I'm concerned "show me your orders" is more about bragging than it is getting help. This would only be for getting help.

Aren't you the same guy that doesn't believe someone can be German via ancestry?
Using the word to describe some of your cultural background can be useful. If 'German culture' was a significant part of your upbringing and helps define your personality, then of course somebody should mention it.

But this "I'm a quarter Russian, an eighth Korean, an eighth Brazilian, and half Burkinabi" crap? Yeah, I think that's stupid.

I know pretty much all of my own updates have hurt by not knowing what to do, where to go next, or having the confidence to trust in my own writing abilities. From talking with other NESers I also know that these same problems apply to multiple people. Would a "Help Me With My Update Thread" be a good idea? In this thread, basically you can apply to have a neutral third party read a rough draft of your update for peer review, as well as discuss different types and methods for producing a successful update.

If this thread were successful, I think we might see a lot more NESes lasting more than simply 1-3 updates.

It could probably also be used as a place for people to get critiques on stories (or even orders?) before they actually posted them, if that is desirable.

Good idea? Bad idea? Thoughts?

I really like the idea - the problem is spoiling things for active players in those NESers. I'd definately make it so its a thread for arranging the sending of PM's between people, rather than putting everything out in open, as in the 'show me your orders' thread.

Put them in spoilers, make it a confidence system, and when the update is finally posted, have a standard "Unpackaged" tag so that such people are safe at looking at previous incarnations.

Confidence system is too optimistic. I say go with Daft's idea where the thread serves as a meet-up for PM exchanges.

But PM's take up soooo much space. :( Space that is needed to store stories, devious diplomacy, interesting intrigue, monitering moderators, and organizing orders!

:P

I'll gladly do such a thing.

All the cool mods copy over all of their NESes' material to text documents on their PC. ;)

I'm going to have to agree with nutra, a confidence system is way to optimistic. I don't know if I could be trusted to always not look at it. The temptation might sometimes be to great.

You might discuss things that might eventually be delayed for future updates, or contingency plans of players that reveal hidden motives etc etc, lots of opportunity for spoiling the intrigue :)

Why is it stupid? Even if I was raised in a certain culture, my background in different nations is still interesting and relevant, even if the relevance is only genetic.

It is relevant to human society.

NES:

I like my women like I like my warfare: _______?

I like my women like I like my warfare: Cold, shadowy

I like my women like I like my warfare: With a penis.

Am I even allowed to say that?
