While We Wait: Writer's Block & Other Lame Excuses

He doesn't want mentions of certain other NESes, prefers if you read everything first before commenting, make long suggestion/history/rhetorical question answers, and specific talking points instead of open-ended questions.

 Terrance, you have consistently spammed and flamed my presence on this board for the last week or so. I have been largely civil in the discourse, telling you flatly that your suggestions are not what I have in mind and that your questions are not exactly good ones. I am only giving you my honest responses to your queries. If you ask me a ridiculously broad question, yes, I will respond "It depends", because I feel any good mod does not make absolutes -- and any good NES does not contain them.

He doesn't want mentions of certain other NESes

Incorrect. You can mention other NESes all you want, but after that mention, if I tell you flatly, "That isn't what I have in mind, actually," I expect the conversation to move on -- not linger.

Oh my! What a severe, stern requirement for logical discourse on a concept! I prefer if you actually read what I have to say, before commenting! Remarkable.

Not quite sure what you mean by this, but it appears that you are mocking other members of the community whose feedback I actually appreciated. I didn't want any hard feelings, Terrance -- I'm not that kind of guy. I believe it's appropriate to direct conversation one way and not the other, and to flatly tell people if their suggestion is not what I had in mind, or their question was too broad, or give a reply that indicates a variety of factors contribute to the answer to the said question(s). I've been patient with you throughout this experience, tolerating (essentially) a hijacking of my original thread. But this is an open forum, so tolerating such manners is par for the course. As I've told you, I appreciate your feedback, but I also did not find it particularly useful. I have no doubt you have a variety of clever things to add to a NES, but the comments, suggestions, questions, etc. you have posed to me have veered from my original idea altogether, and indicate that you have not clearly read my concepts or input from other members of the forum. It therefore amounts to spamming.

I hope you'll consider these words, and be civil in your response to them. Don't lose your cool so easily, and if you make a suggestion that does not hit a perfect note to another NESer, do not take it as an offense.

Moderator Action: I think the Nazis vs Soviet Union thing has run its course; if you want to discuss it further please take it to History or OT. Thanks.

That whole debate got out of hand quickly... oh well, glad to hear about DaftNES, and I will be watching it for fun and lurking around it from time to time.

I was just giving suggestions for people who wish to help you. I personally have read and reviewed everything your wrote and thought about the different interpretations of what you said, and how to narrow it down so that your vision is distinct and unique, and thus can be viewed in such a way so that ALL can see your vision, not just yourself; so far I have asked relatively few tough questions which are put off, while when others rephrase my questions, often in the exact same way, you embraced them.

I will thus now burn every thing I have ever posted in your thread so that you may read it without being annoyed about me, and focus on your actual work. You should not feel encumbered by spammers, flamers, and useless questioners like me.

There, all expurged.

Now, I know that no two NESes are EVER the same. That is NEVER the point of "see this NES" or "check that NES". The POINT is this; here are certain concepts which either you can borrow from since they work, or know to avoid since they don't, or even if they have nothing to do with your concepts, you can extrapolate and make your own unique concepts.

The second statement means that everything you ever said must be analyzed, because apparently you have said everything already despite me reading the thread four times before asking any questions, each. Most answers are "read the thread again, terrance" or "it depends", which are fine and all, I guess.

The last one is me just saying that almost everything I've said was rejected, while, after being restated as aggressive suggestions, was accepted.

I would like to note that I am still interested in joining that NES, even if a question of, say "How much troops can I supply with 1000 gold/2 EP/whatever" would be answered with "it depends" every time.

Eh. I'm not one to hold grudges. If you want to join my NES, feel free. As I said: no hard feelings. You didn't have to expunge your presence from the thread. As I said: keep your cool, terrance. Learn to take criticism sometimes.

And no, such a question would not be answered with "It depends".

Charles Li, I think you might be a little off base here. Deleting all your posts isn't a mature response, but trying to respond adequately to Starlife's criticisms might be.

Other people seem to be providing Starlife with good input for his NES, maybe you should follow their example.

Sure.

Spoiler :
His criticisms-talking about ImmacuNES, being too vague/not necessary/off topic, not reading his posts, flaming.
1) Talking about ImmacuNES; in fact, I talked about 3 other NESes too, each time pointing out things he might think about. This was before we even decided on anything and he had a "Vision" to share.
2) Being too vague; I don't really know how to solve this. Every time I specify closely, it becomes an "It depends", while if I back off it becomes "It's too vague". I suggested things such as Eunuch politics, conflict over the Emperor's chair and thus the Executor's seat, power to requisition fiefs or not, and whether in the short term (as defined by 5 updates) would generational changes be very significant as well as detailing senerios. Then there was the spat over whether there are any underlying difference between Major and Minor houses. His response to the Eunuchs is telling me to read more (and later, revealing info he didn't posted yet which answered ALL my questions in that regard), said that there are basically no conflict over the Emperorship (saying its not worth responding when I asked if just declaring overwhelming support is enough for unknown hier situations, or would they fight it out civil war style, or have a duel ect) and that it goes to the son, of which my question is what if he didn't get to choose WHICH son. For the power to requisition fiefs he didn't even mention, just said that there is a lot of flaming and spam going around. For the short term power of marriages, he simply said that over the long term it will matter, completely avoiding the situation.
Later, by another player's request, he posted his Vision on Eununches which answered all my questions about them. By another player's request, he detailed the status of the Emperorship. By another player's request, he talked about the Executor's abilities to requisition fiefs, the power of marriage in short term politics, the underlying differences between Major and Minor houses.
He answered all the questions I asked when another player asked them, while when I asked them he avoided it.
3) Not reading his posts- As I've said, I've read the entire thread at least six times, analyzing what he wrote and his responses and trying to sketch HIS vision of this world so that he won't offhandedly reject further questions. Needless to say, I failed.
4) Flaming- I am definately flaming now, not sure about earlier.

The final straw is he is perfectly OK with answering/replying the same questions/suggestions when posed by other players, but simply rejects my questions/suggestions every single time earlier. No exceptions whatsoever.

Well, in addition to your listing of misinformation above, you certainly haven't helped your cause by deleting your posts in the thread, Terrance. It seems we've hit a dead.

Perfect. Let's just leave this for the past and never speak of this again. I don't want to, and I don't think you would either. I've already apologized for what I've done and I don't want to mull over, think about, or even consider it ever again, other reminding myself what not to do when offering suggestions for other pre-NESes, of course. I don't want to ever remind myself or ever even think about reminding myself all the time I invested into it and will let it go for the sake of defusing further conflict. If this comes up again, I swear it won't be on my part.

So guys, I hereby pledge to restart DaftNESIV and also to make it decent. Going to eliminate most of the rules and thinking of speeding up the passage of time... Interbreeding and kingdom building fun!

Also, since I have a lot of free time right now, I was thinking of running a quick battle tournament type thing, again using Advance-Wars style graphics. If you think of football teams and star players, this will be where NESers have armies and elite units. Would anyone be interested??
Woo DaftNESIV! :D

I agree with you, actually.
Yes, I liked the simple names too. Sapphire Lion FTW!

I have to say, I'm loving NES-ing :D
Great to hear! :D

So I had this idea.
There could be a NES "newsletter" of sorts, that could be anything from a short thing showcasing one or two NESes to a full fledged newspaper. It could be linked to from the front page of CFC.
Not sure if this has been tried before.
Civ4 S&T has tried this, and it has really helped bring in new members.

Great idea. Nao we need ppl.

Terrance kinda made some good posts earlier about active NESes and all that, so if he's serious about doing it, let's talk with BJ?
