While We Wait: Writer's Block & Other Lame Excuses

#nesdnd was the channel we used. Unfortunately, Luckymoose lives in a place with crumbling electrical infrastructure, which forced us to stop after our first encounter.

You can play if you're there when it's happening. Do you know how to access the NESer IRC Channels?

I hate that it's American Taim dnds. :(

Also, random, my girlfriend broke up with me last night. It was actually kind of mutual, but on her initiative. Right now I feel sad and relieved.

We were both surprisingly adult about the deal. No yelling, just sitting through it sadly. Meh. Things pass, time goes on. Live and let live. We did some stuff afterwards (physical too) and will probably hook up a couple of more times because we still have hormones and stuff, but I think it's over for good though.

New life, new stuff. I just moved out and started a course on musicology in Copenhagen University. Perhaps having your high school girlfriend leave you is the proper experience right now. To start anew, move on with your life - it's not like I liked the old one, after all.

She was still a good (the best) part of it, and was really a nice girl overall. Was never unhappy with her. I have some very good memories of the relationship, and it's hard to feel that bad when I am so lucky to have experienced her.

I know how you feel lj, I broke up with my GF of 3 years fairly recently too.

:( very sorry to hear that guys...

Went fine actually, last time I did it with one of my exes, although it gave me chlamydia. From that account, it was a pretty bad idea. :p

Oh. Sad to hear that. I didn't know, thought you were still together. We were together for 1½ years.

LJ, Sigur Ros are soon playing live at a festival near me in the UK. I'm not there sadly :) but there is a live stream on YouTube.

Florence & the Machine on at the moment, she's amazing!

Link to video.

EDIT: I'm sure Sigur Ros were on next. Now they aren't on the playlist. Fook this shiz.

Since no one really seems to look at the map thread I'm posting this here to begin my campaign to drum up interest in a NES I want to host.

!!!Big Image Warning!!!

(Ocean borders are forthcoming, I completely forgot to do them!)

The way I want to take this NES is kind of combine some of my favorite NES' that I have read/lurked thus far, namely DaftNES3, CNES: The Flames of War, and EltNES: THIS World is Yours. That sounds like a crazy/ambitious mix, doesn't it? Humor me for a moment, though.

I want to create a running fantasy history setting with the help of the community. In some ways this is a fresh-start style NES in that players will be given the chance to write history through their actions. However, I am shying away from a straight fresh-start NES because I have sincere doubts if I would ever be able to maintain interest long enough to create a 'good' NES. When I look at the RISK/board-game style approach of CNES (and its predecessors) I think to myself 'now THAT seems like a lot of fun!' though, again, I want to shy away from doing a straight RISK NES because I still doubt if I have the wherewithal to commit to that for dozens of turn. I hope that by now you've noticed the trend: it's dubious if I can keep focused on a single NES to see it to completion.

Now, I ask to not let this scare you away from ever playing in this NES/any NES' I may run in the future. I have a lot of ideas bouncing around my head, so I want to create this NES from the ground up with this in mind. The NES will have multiple 'phases', each phase somewhat different from others in terms of mechanics, but not setting. I want to play a plethora of different games, but ultimately remain immersed in one continuous body of lore that builds off of whatever happened in the last game.

For example the first few phases that I have planned out see the players beginning the game by populating the world with races that they create, and then the game moves onto players founding their first real civilizations, and after that the discovery of magic occurs and the game turns into players acting as wizard-kings who most likely will mess up the world. Three different games, but all in the same world!

I won't go on any further because I think anything more would be better suited for the New NES/Ideas thread, but I just wanted to get the word out there.

I could totally work with that, Son of Erdrick. Would be very happy to be part of a fantasy province NES.

The terrific thing about the CNES model is that it allows you to regiment gameplay very clearly, which is useful for making a competitive NES or at least one that you don't mind suffers from no auspices of realism.

Don't make the mistake I did, though. Make sure you have a clear vision before you set out and get started. Decide on what you want to do early on, so that you don't get surprised when an off-hand great idea turns out to be your NES's bane.
