The point of serving in political office is to serve your nation, against all enemies, real or imaginary.

It is worth noting how quickly England swung around to "defend" itself against the HRE. Conehead certainly doesn't have a history of invading people when they're distracted (Trinlin, Empire of the Rising Sun...) and Storm certainly wasn't constantly fishing for allies to betray the HRE. And there wasn't ingame intel suggesting that, yes, he was a traitor. No. None at all.

Portugal? Well, that might just be realpolitik. France could ill-afford to have been betrayed on both sides by the GGR and the Iberians, and relations with Portugal were rocky. It was a preventative measure but a necessary one. The destruction of Portugal was never the aim, merely its disabling. But tossi decided to fight to the end so that was how things went.

And Scandinavia? Making a seperate peace and violating several pacts? Going on its own colonialist spree and generally just aggrivating two of the three leading superpowers in the world? Perhaps not a betrayal, but don't tell me they didn't draw a target on themselves.

Generally the "Allies" did nothing that the "Central Powers" weren't guilty of too (recall the betrayal of Byzantium of either side in both world wars, the betrayal of the GGR, so forth), they just get way more flak for it because they won. :p

Oh, and on that note, all that talk about it being in everyone's "best interests" to bring down the HRE were pretty much proved to be bull. The GEAR, EUA, and Krakow Union all benefitted greatly - it was the people who got in the way or tried to betray that kept getting sunk. You take care of the Family, and the Family takes care of you, eh? ;)

You broke an NAP with China in Icmancin's nes :p
Forgot about that. OK, I have one tarnish on my record. I must point out however that that NAP might as well as not have even existed. I had completely forgotten about it and it was never marked on the front page. It is true that I still did break the NAP, but it was a worthless NAP.

After thinking about it some this could be a fairly useful thread, as Cui suggested, provided it remains on the topic of discussion and people don't get personal.

A lot of people don't like "analysis" or "discussion" of current events in NESes (present or past) citing it "ruins the mood." Having an individual thread for every NES is also impractical. So if all the "OOC" debate is corraled into a single thread (say, this one) then that would actually serve a positive and healthy function, I think. Mostly by reducing such "spam" (I mark a difference between real discussion of play and random things like animal stories or trash-talk) in the actual threads themselves.

So, to try and kick things off some more (since NES2 VI analysis doesn't seem much anyone's cup of tea) what do people think about the current geopolitical situation in LINES II? I enjoy lurking that game some and I'm just curious as to what people on the inside of the game think of what's going on.

All NAPs are worthless, really. If anyone had ever kept a NAP, it was only because there were other, far better reasons NOT to break them.

I suppose that this thread could be useful as a general NES discussion thread.

I try to keep NAPs. But I suppose that's because I'm naive, more than anything else. Like in INES. My attempts to get NAPs were because I wanted a decent peace...like that'll happen...

@Insane Panda what I want to know is why Kalamar Union attacked me as France in DisNES. What did you offer him to convince him of that?

@Symphony did you invade China because of the Burma and Karachi thing, and Rajput invasion or are those just part of the reason?

And I agree NAP's are worthless.

NAPs are worthless junk, The people who sign are only hoping for at best a turn of peace before they can invade the other guy unawares.

I'll betray an agreement if I can get something out of it, like tidying up the border or just take over a chunk of land i've had my eye on since the nes started.
Or if the other guy is acting like an arrogant jerk making up half-arsed reasons to justify war.
Or if they constantly scream "thats unrealistic!" because we all know what they really mean "thats going to negatively effect me so you cant do it!"

Burma (Rebels), Sumatra (Rebels), Karachi (Rebels), Persia (Rebels), Pirates, and the final straw that set me off was Manchuria (Rebels). I wasn't going to dump 200 Divisions into Russia while somebody doing all that was on my flank.

Now that I can speak honestly, I was behind only Manchuria. I suppose Stormbringer was probably behind most of the others, though I think Sumatra was just a "natural" rebellion, and Burma might have been an NESer. (There were also hints that the Sumatran resistance was started by the Mughals before their collapse.)

Actually I think Silver was behind those.

But I have only broken 1 NAP thus far. Well one that I knew wasn't goign ot attack me. HRE scared me.

And that one NAP was against das in DisNES I. I believe you were Russia and I was Kalmykistan(sp?) It was either that or be gobbled up by the ottomans, or eventually Russia.

Mrm. Well, that was the only one that was directly against me and the one I mostly acted on (with the others as window dressing), so that's still more than enough for me to have done what I did. :p

As near as I could tell, other than Luckymoose's experiments with democracy that eventually exploded, there was no real organized Egalist operation since about mid-IT2, when stalin006 disappeared. The next nearest thing was Cleric's little organization in the Yukon, which kidnapped some of my researchers and stole some of my technology, and then went on to do the Reykjavik "Field Test" in 1785 under the cover of war. I sent in 10 Divisions to blow them all up in 1788. Other than him, most of the secret organizations were dead (if independent) or distracted (if state run).

I wonder if someone would like to make a certain announcement to prove Symphony wrong now. ;)

:mischief:

But anyways the SSC had giant labor camps where they kept Egalitists and Aborigines and did medical and chemical experiments on them.

And the Stay at Home Civil and Domestic Guard was actually a secret Mafia like organization that was infiltrating countries to serve the best interests of the company.

And on the LINESII Geopolitical situation, Khemri and Gorin are going to keep expanding until it become unprofitable for them to do so. I predict they will be at war with each other in 4-5 turns.

The Bladeist nations are going to consolidate after the New Veritas War is over, and build roads and cities. yay

New Veritas will be forced to exodus, or will be conquered and genocided if they don't make peace. If they make peace then they will start becoming Very revanchist and tensions between them and guangfei wil continue to erupt for many centuries to come. Sintonia will also always be a hot spot for them. Oneism will begin to decline, as inter fighting has begun and all the Oneist nations except Cleric are getting significantly weaker, and that just cause Cleric is cool.

Guangfei will also fight a myriad of wars with the Trinlinese succesor states, and the region of former Trinlin will be in chaos for te next like 12 updates.

The New Worl doesn't matter, but Khemri will begin to secure colonies on it, and it will become a plaground for the proxy wars between the Old World mega-states. Everyone will prop up someone and all wars will have an old-world agenda behind them, because the surviving states are too big to keep duking it out on the home front for a little while.

Blans For Emorinas, Spread out and Become a jewish-like minority, spreadign out and getting a small population Across the entier Old world. Possibly the new world. Eventualy, Possibly Re-establishing a smm nation around Old Vertis, or where Emor is. was, sorry.

According to what das told me as I sort of half-heartedly began my Tamil resistance, the Egalitists were never led by stalin and had a PC leader the entire time.

I am Spartacus?

*wince* If I was truthfull I think I could have done a better job. It was lackluster, unfocused, orders were a mess all the time, Das I think was annoyed with me at times :p.

Still, I'm trying to establish if Pandas invasion of England was a result of all that false intel I fed him. Or wether it was just the ships.

I don't really remember you feeding me false info. It was really just his armed military build up and Conehead's penchant for revenge (I did destroy his Spain) and common sense which lead me to sink England's fleet.

If the Egalitists had PC leadership, it sure was incompetant ;)

But yes, NAPs are, to a degree, rather useless diplomatic fluff.
