Why do you *not* accept evolution?

Evolutionary expieraments have also been done on fruit flies, it just takes a hell of a lot longer than using bacteria.

How did dinosaurs invent Monster Munch? Riddle me that scientist freaks? :D

No scientist would ever say something is absolutely impossible, that would mean their theory was unfalsifiable and destroy its theoretical status. Nice try though, contact me when you've learnt what scientific method entails and theory.

Actually Sidhe if you state something is absolutely impossible it is often falsifiable. E.g. suppose a scientist expresses a theory that FTL travel is absolutely impossible. This can be falsified by the observation of absolutely anything travelling faster than light, and so is a perfectly falsifiable theory.

Unfalsifiable statements are generally of the form "God did it" or "it was magic". Since you can ascribe any property or intention to a divine being or to magic there is no observation you could make to falsify this statement, so it would an unscientific theory.

Scientists don't like saying things are absolutely impossible because it makes them look ridiculous if proven wrong (which would be impossible if their statement was unfalsifiable). There's nothing wrong with it in the scientific method though.

Until I can open a jar of peanut butter and have life spontaneously appear evolution isn't real.
Techinically there are probably microorganisms living inside your peanut butter.

Are there lizardmen? No. Centaurs? No. Mermaids? Do you see any mermaids? No.

How much more proof do you need?

This theory is hogwash.

How could mermaids evolve? They don't have reproductive organs. :(

This thread hasn't evolved, at least. Still hard to tell the sarcastic from the merely stupid.

That's just plain not true?

Yes they do. At least I've seen pictures of mermaids with reproductive organs.

Noone needs to answer this post since it poses the questions that have been asked before too many times an have no concrete answer.

What started it all?
If "God" how do you know your god is the real one? There seems to be a few

Anyway he's just sore because I said you can't say absolutely that FTL is impossible and retain any sort of scientific credibility. He disagrees, no good scientist would say that anything is absolute, assymptotically close, but the thinnest sliver of doubt is what science and scientific method are all about. He can say what he likes doesn't make him a scientist any more than standing in a lab does, if he is unwilling to acknowledge margin of error, or even faslsifiabillity, then he'll go far in theology, not science or philosophy though.

It wasn't "absolutely" I had any objection to. It was your claim that stating something was absolutely impossible would be unfalsifiable, and hence unscientific, which is untrue as I've explained above.

As to whether FTL is impossible, it looks unlikely, but there I personally would not go as far as stating it is absolutely impossible. The theory that it is impossible is however a perfectly valid scientific theory, as it may be possible to falsify it.

I would suggest you read up on the scientific method, in particular the element of falsifiability, as you seem to be mixing up "We don't know if this is true" with "It is impossible to show this is false".

Quis costodiat custodes?

Yes, at least according to Futurama. :D

Ah yes
Fry: Oh, why couldn't she be the other kind of mermaid, with the fish part on the top and the lady part on the bottom?

And back on topic, I take evolution as fact because I have wisdom teeth, what sort of benign creator would leave an enamel time bomb inside my mouth?

Despite the evidence, no no no no, the proof, of evolution(lab expieraments on what many call "macro evolution", the similarities between chromosomes of various animals especially specietically close ones, the fossil record and a whole list of other evidences and proofs, what is your reasoning for not accepting evolution? Please elaborate why.
By evolution it seems you mean universal common descent. There is reason why not to believe in UCD like for example the fossil record.
Also similarities are evidence of common ancestry unless similarities aren't the result of common ancestor.:crazyeye:

I am pretty sure that by Evolution he means.. you know.. Evolution.
