Go Trabbi Go: More Trabant cars on the street than Teslas
The Trabant, also called Trabbi, hasn't been produced for 30 years now. Yet, there are still more than 38.000 of them in Germany, as the Center Automotive Research (CAR) of Ferdinand Dudenhöffer has determined. In contrast to this, the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt has officially registered only 34.000 Tesla cars.

Caveat emptor: Trader gets painted stones instead of $36m of copper

A commodities trader was given painted stones instead of $36m (£26m) of copper from a Turkish supplier
Last year, Mercuria agreed to buy the copper blister, an impure form of the metal, for delivery to China. About 6,000 tonnes was loaded for shipment in more than 300 containers on eight vessels.
But before its journey from a port near Istanbul, the copper was switched with paving stones, spray-painted to resemble the semi-refined metal.
It appears the copper was initially loaded into the first shipment of containers, before being surveyed by an inspection company. Seals used to prevent fraud were fixed to the containers.
But the containers were opened and the copper replaced with paving stones, Istanbul law firm KYB told media. The fraudsters switched between fake and real container seals to avoid detection.

Once the vessels were at sea, Mercuria paid $36m over five installments.
The fraud wasn't discovered until the ships began arriving in the Chinese port of Lianyungang later that month.
I guess it is hard being an international capitalist, but you would have thought when spending $36,000,000 you could afford to check more than once. They do look just like painted kerb stones.

no picture available but pavement stones is a big business here . Was before New Turkey , got much bigger after New Turkey . Every street might get re-arranged with new stones every 2 or 3 or 5 years depending on how much money the contractors want to make that year . Though this style of export is not the fad it can be .

silly me , ı had to go to shopping in some instant , so the above post seems typical defensive , instead of the minimum level sarcasm . Though once they discover it is so profitable , uhm , yes , there will be tons of new suppliers ...

You would think they could use the crystal ball to predict this......

Fire department: Crystal ball caused Wisconsin house fire

Sunshine went through the crystal ball, igniting a nearby couch.

A crystal ball is being blamed for starting a house fire in Delton, Wisconsin, on Monday.
According to the Delton Fire Department, the homeowner got home and found thick smoke in their house on Fox Hill Road and called 911. The fire department responded around 4:17 p.m. and extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported.
Fire investigators determined a glass "crystal ball" ornament on a table in the living room caused the blaze. When sunlight shone through the large living room windows and through the glass ball, it ignited the nearby couch, causing the fire.
"Homeowners should keep items such as crystals, mirrors, glass ornaments, and even bottles away from direct sunlight and particularly away from anything flammable," the fire department said. "These items can act just like a magnifying glass and focus sunlight so that the energy, which would normally be spread out over a wide area, is delivered to a much smaller point."
The fire was isolated to the living room area, but it caused "substantial heat damage" to the main level of the house, the fire department says. The damage is estimated at $250,000.

(WFRV) – A Wisconsin State Patrol trooper pulled over a pickup truck after the trooper noticed the vehicle was not equipped with seats.
According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, the driver was seated in a camping chair and the vehicle was not equipped with any seats.
The area of the incident was in the North Central Region of Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin State Patrol also mentioned the specific rule that requires seats.

Anyone saying "Well it is a seat", keep in mind that even if using the seat belt, the seat belt is not attached to the chair and the chair is not bolted to the floor, so the seat belt won't do him any good.

Chinese entrepreneur sells pensive Donald Trump Buddha statues
[...]
China’s state-owned Global Times paper first reported on the product and spoke to the seller, based in Xiamen, Fujian province, who is promoting the statue with the slogan “Make your company great again!” The seller said they had already sold “dozens” of the 100 statues manufactured so far.

One buyer told the Global Times they had bought the statue as a humble reminder not to be “too Trump”.

That's… ridiculously creepy. Privacy be damned.

when they steal from foreigners criminals in New Turkey can be found . Those painted pavement stones ? The police arrested like 11 people ...

Some 20year old (or younger, maybe late teens) died in a traffic accident just outside the greek parliament. Apparently he was hit by the driver of the car of one of the nepotist families in eternal power here. There is an investigation, but it already looks very suspicious. The kid died (braindead - his family already announced they will donate his organs).
What I particularly detested was how the mp/plutocrat/pos whose car it was being driven, immediately made a social-media announcement starting with "I was inside parliament when it happened", meaning that she wasn't actually being driven in the car which killed the kid.
She is the sister of the current clown prime minister, and they are both children of a previous prime minister. And her useless son is mayor of Athens :vomit:

Moments after @Sommerswerd posted in yonder thread about parents going overboard with their kids' sports teams, I read this:

BBC News, 15 March 2021 - "Mother 'used deepfake to frame cheerleading rivals'"
BBC News said:
A mother allegedly used explicit deepfake photos and videos to try to get her teenage daughter's cheerleading rivals kicked off the team.

Raffaela Spone from Pennsylvania, US, reportedly sent the content - which showed members of the Victory Vipers team "naked, drinking and smoking" - to the coach.

One victim's parents contacted police in July saying their daughter had received harassing text messages from an anonymous number.

Two more families later came forward after receiving similar messages.

Mrs Spone is believed to have used the girls' social media accounts to generate the deepfake images.

Taiwan official urges people to stop changing their name to 'salmon'

Under the two-day promotion, which ended on Thursday, any customer at a chain of sushi restaurants whose ID card contained “gui yu” – the Chinese characters for salmon – would be entitled to an all-you-can-eat sushi meal along with five friends.
About 150 mostly young people visited government offices in recent days to officially change their name.

But Taiwanese officials were not amused. “This kind of name change not only wastes time but causes unnecessary paperwork,” the deputy interior minister, Chen Tsung-yen, told reporters on Thursday as he urged the public to “cherish administrative resources”.

Local media ran interviews with people who had taken advantage of the promotion. “I just changed my name this morning to add the characters ‘Bao Cheng Gui Yu’ and we already ate more than Tw$7,000 (£176),” a college student surnamed Ma told the TVBS news channel in southern Kaohsiung city.
Roughly translated, Ma’s new moniker means: “Explosive Good Looking Salmon.”
“I’ve changed my first name to salmon and two of my friends also did,” a woman surnamed Tung told SET TV. “We’ll just change our names back afterwards.”
Other salmon-themed names reported in local media included “Salmon Prince”, “Meteor Salmon King” and “Salmon Fried Rice”.

Every official form he ever fills in, every job he applies for, he'll have to answer the "list any other names you have been known as" section. As good as a £176 restaurant meal could sound having to explain to the job interview panel why you were known as "Meteor Salmon King" when you're 60 will be awkward.

I imagine that people in Taiwan don't think about anyone in Europe overly much.
