Why I want to get married eventually: I don't think you really "mean it" and I don't think your relationships mean much to people if your not married.

For example, if a girl tells me she has a boyfriend or a fiancée and she is out somewhere without him, and obviously jockin me, (and I don't know her boyfriend) It won't matter that she is dating him, because if she is going to cheat with me she would just as easily cheat with someone else.

However, I avoid married women like the plague. I even get a little agitated when they are overtly flirting with me, I think to myself "This broad has no respect for her old man WTH, I know this would make him mad if he was here, I better lay off this lady"

That seems to be how all of my guy friends handle this sort of thing too.

That's one of the reasons I want to get married, so guys will back off a girl I plan to stay with.

And on the flip side, it's practically impossible for me to fight off the advances of an attractive female, and they don't care if you tell them you have a girlfriend. I think when I am married I will be able to just say I am married and they will leave me alone.

No poll because no matter how many different options I put up it will be inadequate, just tell me how you feel, your thoughts.

I wish to get married, however, some people think I shouldn't have the right to marry the person I love.

Fortunately, their numbers shrink every day.

I believe marriage should be the ultimate end goal for any relationship; if it works out nicely, I think you should make that last commitment and be wed not just before yourselves, but before society at large.

Never mind I find the family unit to be very important for the stability of our society.

Just get married in Massachusetts or something and then move to my state and your marriage is valid (Seriously, we need more generally conservative people around here anyways.)

Of course, I'm getting the heck out of here once I turn 18.

And the problem is not that you cannot marry the person you love, but merely that you cannot marry another man. You can marry whomever you love, if that person is a woman;)

To answer the question, probably eventually.

Incorrect. DOMA. That piece of blatantly unconstitutional crap. And I don't say "unconstitutional" lightly.

I'm gay. By definition I cannot love a woman. :p

At some point, I certainly want to be married. Marriage plays a rather integral part of my religious faith, and also provides some semblance of security for my kids.

I don't think I'm emotionally ready for it yet, but I could certainly see myself married in a few years.

I think New York does actually recognize out-of-state same-sex marriages. I don't know that any other states that ban same-sex marriage do though.

I think the Section banning them Federally is, but I think any Federal involvement, whether recognizing them or not doing so, is unconstitutional.

You don't love your mother?;)

Correct.

New York yes, but what if I don't want to live there? :p

That said, I am a New Yorker in exile. I'd kill to move back there. That or California.

The whole thing is since it says a section of the Constitution can be declared null and void simply if Congress says so. That defeats the whole point of a Constitution if a simple law can just overturn it.

You don't love your mother?;)

Not romantically. :p

Do you have any opinion of marriage at all?

Well, it hinges on my finding someone I'm willing to share the rest of my life and everything with.

I'm open to it, but picky, and think I would rather have a live in relationship with someone I can accept before I'll marry her.

I'd kill to be off this floating piece of crap;)

(And I live on an island, so that works;))

Yes indeed. This is the argument I use all the time.

Not romantically.

You said you could not love a woman. You did not say romantically;)

Do you think it does more so than just being in a committed relationship with your children's mother? If so why?

There are legal, political and financial advantages that are given to married couples that unmarried couples are not always eligible for.

That's because all they see now is a challenge. You have to tell them you haven't had a date in two years and "great, I've been getting tired of masturbation". Seem really anxious to get into a relationship...they'll back off once they realize you're easy to get.

Why get married?

I don't care about the piece of paper. I just want her to know that I love her and I want to declare it before all of our family and friends in an ceremonial fashion.

ps. Oh and I will probably NOT get married. I haven't found a woman yet that I can stand or one that can stand me. ;)

My first wife is still in high school. My second wife is in grade school. My third wife's parents haven't been born yet.

I am a two-time loser. If I screw up another marriage it's the big house for me.

My brother is on his third marriage. It looks like this one might actually work out.

My mother was divorced twice. She died after she apparently found the right husband on the third try.

My maternal grandmother divorced and married a great man who treated us all like he was our real grandfather. They both died within weeks of each other at a very early age after she contracted terminal cancer which lasted for years. He died a few weeks she did before of a heart attack.

My paternal grandparents divorced as well. I have no idea what happened to the first wife since nobody ever spoke of her.

Even my maternal great-grandmother got a divorce and never remarried. Perhaps it is a family curse.
